RE: A1 Pharmaceuticals Academy news

What is the general thinking, particularly for Marcus with such limited expectations, for playing these two weeks as opposed to resting and recharging earlier before moving onto an extensive fitness block ?

A reminder that  Hindsight is a great science but it's been a great year

We now have

1) 3 singles titles ( none previously )

2) record year ends singles & doubles

3) a quality doubles partner

4) very strong support team includes an excellent tennis secretary , and 3 new quality coaches

So commence 2014 with a renewed confidence and high expectation

Err. Was this an answer to Indy's question? Let me ask it again - why has marcus decided to play more Futures so late in the year, rather than start his important training block earlier? Thanks

Same answer - in other  words totally happy the way 2013 has gone particularly when you compare it with the 2013 Aegon sponsored players with hindsight you can always do better but with 10 futures titles in 2013 compared with 6 in previous 5 years - its happy days . I would be more worried about the 18 -20 top 25 players we have leapfrogged this year

Its certainly not for me to put words in anyone's mouths (and by all means correct me if I'm wrong!!) but I don't think they were worrying about Marcus necessarily. I'm not even sure it was a critique that needed you to justify yourself with the number of titles won or compare to any other players, at least that's not how I read it.

Just a question of why Marcus decided to continue playing after admittedly being tired and you saying expectations were low. As you say and everyone agrees, he's had a great season, so he didn't *need* to play more. That's why I was curious anyway.

Was it just to give it one last try and see how it goes? Points? Money? Experience? or something else?

***Sorry, by they I meant Indiana and Korriban

Ah, posts crossed ( thanks, for as you can see by my own last post, the substantially accurate reasoning of where I was coming from, DWH ).

Yes when you have a regular partner you can't just leave him on the bench but we did compromise by dropping Qatar

It's jobs done for 2013 on the singles front but be nice to support Lewis with another doubles title

Well it's still not an answer to my question, repeated by korriban, now is it ?

Please bear with me, I come in peace...

This is not disputing at all what a good year it has been. People here keep agreeing with you about this, with few reservations, so why you feel you have to keep repeating it really does defeat me.

Again, I was asking about this Greek trip and the thinking behind going for these 2 weeks, particularly with Marcus and more particularly when you intimated yourself that he had played a lot of tournaments and you had limited expectations / targets for these 2 weeks, i.e. at least one semi final.

I am genuinely interested. Is it for instance to chase some end of year rankings target, WR or GB ranking ? ( and one can understand the satisfaction of making ( revised ) targets and / or the possible appeal to potential sponsors of a certain ranking ). Is it to further progress the Willis / Burton doubles partnership or say to work on some specific tactics ( singles or doubles ) in match play before the close season ?

Still doesn't completely answer the question because, although a little strange, it would have been perfectly possible for Marcus to go and just play the doubles.

I do hope that they do well - and Marcus certainly loved playing in the sunshine last time he went globe-trotting - but I'm still not convinced. If you'd wanted concentrate on Lewis and the doubles I still think it would have been better to try a couple of Challengers - no downside, just potential plus points, using the momentum from this year to have a bit of fun and 'try it out'

Meanwhile, Marcus is 3-2 and Lewis 0-5

A brilliant article. Funny because it rings so true.

1. My best friend from business school (an American, but European in outlook and humour) married a woman (American in every way) who clearly "manages" him on Facebook, and she is also the Queen of the "update letter" sent out to all her "friends" at Christmas listing all the wonderful things that have happened to them over the previous 12 months. Frankly it makes me want to vomit, but it brings about an even more violent reaction from my wife (she IS French after all) who literally wants to strangle her......or worse. In fact, with a Business School reunion imminent and people travelling from all round the world to the UK early next year to meet up, I am having to be creative in finding plausible reasons why we aren't able to host this couple in our house. Currently considering using the kitten as an alibi.......a severe outbreak of rabies perhaps.

2. Our former child minder regularly gives status updates that include. "It's cold". "not feeling well". "don't want to go to work". "it's the weekend". etc. Surely there's a criminal offence involved somewhere here.
