RE: Week 39 - Kuwait F2 ($10,000) - Meshref (Hard)

I am fully supportive of Marcus 's goals in singles
Currently he has won 2 singles titles &
5 doubles titles compared to a total of 7 doubles in his career previously
It's really about going as far as he can in singles while developing simultaneously at doubles . I think that Marcus's potential in singles is GB no3 and top 200 singles .

Team Willis is now fully behind the all GB doubles duo ( B&B) and although some people are rubbishing the futures victories they obviously have never won a futures title at singles or doubles otherwise they would not be little the achievement .
Check the records and find out when a GB player last won 4 consecutively - that's an even bigger achievement !

With respect, nobody on here has been rubbishing Marcus' futures wins. I, and others, have simply tried to put them in context.

First set in the bag 6-2

5 aces in 4 service games, lost only 3 of 19 points on his own serve (including one double fault) and won 50% of points on his opponents serve.

Lets hope for similar stats in Set 2.

I wouldn't fund anyone with that poor conditioning. It shows a lack of conviction, frankly. If someone turned up to an interview in shorts and t-shirt, unwashed and looking unbothered, I wouldn't employ them either. Very little difference in my view.

Marcus is clearly talented and right now it doesn't look from the outside like he's fully committed to fulfilling that talent. I hope, as A1 says, that's changing. If it does, I'm sure the LTA will provide all the funding and coaching he needs.

While there is a lot of truth in that one must still have doubts about a player, who clearly has not done anything like all he can on the fitness front, Marcus has comparative to previous years had a very good season, and his huge ranking rise is very encouraging. He is clearly getting a lot of support from A1, who clearly believes in him. For his part, Marcus now must surely help repay such faith and money by doing everything he can to make the best of his abilities.

Re LTA support and funding, while clearly increased performance and physical commitment are probably the least the LTA wants to see, there will still be a question of matching the funding matrix regards such as full AEGON funding, and that sets very tough targets for players around Marcus's age.

That said, if he can meet the targets being set for him ( and hopefully he will ) that will come in time.

This is a great site thanks to coup got the result here first ! ! As could not get live scores on my iPhone This means total of 92 points and only 2 points need to have 300 ranking . It's also singles ATP points from 11 consecutive tournaments .

I would like to thank the Kuwaiti businessman that kindly hosted Marcus & Lewis who otherwise  may have opted for a more affordable destination

Glad to be of help !

And that 300 + ranking is only round the corner.

Glad you found some guys to put up Lewis and Marcus - it probably doesn't make a huge funding difference in the scheme of things but I've lodged and fed tennis players from South America when they were traveling in France and I've often wondered if that wasn't an easy thing for tennis clubs to help GB tennis players to arrange i.e. at Loughborough, how many players are staying in hotels ? Do they prefer hotels (more anonymous, private etc.) ? But if funds are really tight, aren't there host households who would be happy to put up a player for a few days ?

CD - a lot of the US tournaments used to house players in members/locals houses. It's a huge cost saving for the tennis players. I know Mel South got put up by locals for the WTA tour at Edgbaston.

Steve I would like to help some more players but already now also going to help Lewis over budget I need to raise further funds because I feel other players could also achieve dramatic rises .

Really? How come you haven't mentioned this before. Seems like something that should be repeated ad nauseum to people who would love to help but aren't in a position to. Perhaps you could start a thread about this, might help.
