Real shame for Dan.  He won the same number of points but not the crucial onesno

A pity. 88 points each, just didn't win the right ones, and lots more break points than his opponent.

Dan was given the runaround in that third set

He never gave up, which is to his credit. And produced some good points.

But, from the middle of the second set, he was a long way off

Dan, Dan. To be honest , hes having a tough time this season, hes something like 150 or so in the race? Enough said - still my favourite player after Andy, but I hope he finds some form soon.

Comments have said Cam just didn't show up on court today.

I think Dan is having similar issues to Schwartzman. Both shorter players, maybe just a step slower now.

I don't like tournaments where seeds have a bye in first round, it makes it much less of an advantage being seeded. Its not just the two gb players who've gone but a lot of other seeds. Also in womens and in doubles, excepting the pairs with brits in.

I watched the Cam match up until mid 2nd set. He lost 15 points in a row at one point. Very lacklustre.

I also watched the Cam match. Something wasn't right today. It was not the usual Norrie. Take nothing away from Barrere but all he had to do really was stay focused and keep the ball in play. Clearly Cam had some sort of issue. But onwards and upwards.

I don't really mind it at all, and at least it gives many more MD opportunities than a straight 64 olayer draw with 16 seeds. I'm not sure how much difference it makes anyway facing a player who has already played at least one match, no doubt not a lot in Cam's case here since he was well beaten. In the men's all the players seeded above Cam got through their first round (R2) successfully though yes a lot of losses further down.

FWIM, overall in the men's on this occasion 20 of the 32 seeds won, 12 lost.  Overall in the women's 23 of the 30 seeds that made it to the start line won, 7 lost.

I've not looked back to IW or previous years. Here yes the men's losses seem quite high, the women's not really ( at least in their opening matches ) given their normal attrition rate.

There are no byes in the doubles here.

Hurkacz vs Mannarino is in the early stages, on serve 2-1.

Just noticed though that Hurkacz has played 13 points on serve so far and has 7 aces lol

Hurkacz slowed down that rate of aces

He ended with 20 aces in a loss by 7-6(5) 7-6(0)
