Boys & Girls: J5 Nastola, Finland - hard (Week 42)

This is quite an exciting/interesting tournament as our LTA favoured elite 2008 girls are all here.

Arabella Loftus lost in qualis.

But Isabelle Britton, Amalia Widdowson, MikaStojsavljevic, are all here in the MD.

As is Abby Kelliher (2007) and Anjali Kotecha (2005)

In the boys, there's Lance Nisbet (2006), Enrico Franchi (2007), Arthur Attrill (2007), Charlie Swaine, Sam Chadwick (2007) and Dan Hughes (2006)

I don't know the boys, only by name....

I'm a big fan of Isabelle Britton, don't rate Arabella quite so much, but also think Mika, although less 'naturally talented', I'd say, than Isabelle, has a lot of positive points which will lead to a big game.

Amalia has a decent game but I don't think I've seen her since the Auray Open 12 event, and I remember Abby K as being pretty tiny for her age, but that was a while ago.

Mika starts off very well, taking out the third seed with ease

Anjali and Abby also won, as did Dan Hughes

Sam Chadwick lost

The other results are pending

Thanks CD. I've seen Mika play and enjoyed her game and positive approach.

Abby K is still tiny. Had a great start to the year, but her results not so great recently..

I think I may have come across Sam Chadwick, but I don't recall anything.

Wins as well for Isabelle and Amalia (who beat the 5th seed)

So that's five out of five in R1 for the girls smile

Two three-set losses for Lance N and Enrico Franchi

But Arthur Attrill won, as did Charlie Swaine, to join Dan H in R2

Girls still bombing along

Isabelle lost in three sets but Mika and Amalia both won really easily so that's two 2008-ers through

Abby K also won, as did Anjali.

Mika plays Anajli in the QFs so that guarantees at least one semi-finalist

Boys' results to come....

Dan and Arthur lost quite heavily but Charlie had a good win against the third seed in three sets to reach the quarters as the only qualifier. His first main draw wins, so very encouraging to reach the quarters.

Charlie lost his QF

BUT the girls are just rocking it up there !

Both Abby and Amalia won, as did Mika (beating Anjali in three sets)

So the girls' semis are now:

Russian qualifier v Mika S (2008)
(2) Abby K (2007) v Amalia W (2008

In the girls dubs SF, Anjali & Abby def. Mika & Amalia in a MTB

Amalia (2008) defeated Abby K (2007) reasonably easily in the semis - 6-2 6-2

Mika's results still to come

As above, I first saw Amalia at the Open 12 at Auray - she took a storming lead against Stusek (who defeated Hannah Klugman this year to win the Petits As) - but didn't quite manage to hold on as Stusek's 'sneaky' play took its toll

Brilliant to see her doing so well

And it took Mika three sets but she joins Amalia in the final

Also, sharing around the honours:

Anjali Kotecha and Abby Kelliher takes the doubles title, 6-3 6-1
