Week 29/30 - 2020 Olympic Games - Tokyo, Japan - men's tennis event (hard)

Really great hold there for the set.

Three break points saved. Only one or two 'weak' shots. Stayed very solid, under pressure. Jim not playing badly at all.

Allez, Liam.

Got the 10 min extreme weather break now

Liam down *0-3 in the decider.

The way Chardy is serving then hitting forehands it's going to be hard to break him back.

A good effort by Liam and the last 16 of an Olympics is to be very proud of.

Super effort from Liam - hopefully he can get to his next tournament too without too much fuss. Well done!

Sad for Liam but what a great year he is having. I would love to see him crack the top 100 but that climb from 150 to 100 is so tough. He's playing like he's capable though, fingers crossed for the 2nd half of the year

Echo all of the above and Liam is one player, like Cam, that seems to have developed and grown over the past 12 months so well. I would put Dan up there as well in that developed well bracket, all buckling down and realised their potential.

Mens singles last 16 - Spain, Germany, France and Russia all with 2 players. Top 4 seeds all left but Liam has probably got the best quarter to be in - rank outsider still of course, but what a chance!

[1] Djokovic-[16] Davidovich-Fokina
Ivashka-Nishikori

[4] Zverev-Basilashvili
Chardy-Broady

[8] Schwartzman-[12] Khachanov
[14] Humbert-[3] Tsitsipas

[6] Carreño-Busta-Koepfer
[15] Fognini-[2] Medvedev

 So a last 8 of

Djokovic v Nishikori

Zverev v Chardy

Khachanov v Humbert

Carreno Busta v Medvedev

In mens doubles, Croatia guaranteed gold and silver, personally hope that Cilic and Dodig can get the upset win today.

I see Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus, the Kiwis, won bronze, well done to them, must be very proud of them down under - they have been plugging away top 30 or both of them for a long while but neither looked like being at top of the game - shows our chaps like Neal, Ken, Luke, Jonny etc what can be done and achieved if they keep on battling and improving

And Khachanov won his semi comfortably and is in an Olympic final - probably versus Djoko. Well done to him and hope PCB can pull off a bronze upset over Zverev (assuming they play) at the weekend.
