Week 18 - ITF W15 - Ramat Hasharon, Israel (hard)

Well, that was a disappointing end and sort of backs up what various of us had said about the matches not being enough if it's just amongst the same people, time over, and it doesn't translate into ITF results.

However, it's only one match. Can't draw too many conclusions....

20 DFs in the end. Obviously doesn't help.

At least there is another event in Israel next week, and I suppose the doubles for her this week as well.

I disagree, 20 double faults was the issue so nothing to do with her opponent, she beat herself there.  Possibly a result of too many indoor matches and not transitioning to outdoor conditions.

I didn't say it was anything to do with her opponent. I said it was Emily, who indeed beat herself. Which shows that the matches at Proleague level are not very helpful, when they're just reinforcing a certain level.

I understood what you meant but I don't believe it was much if anything to do with the difference in level of play, clearly once she managed to get the ball in play she was competing absolutely fine.  If those proleague matches had been played outdoors there is every chance that she would have been better prepared for this match and not had so many issues with her serve.  20 DFs lost her this match, nothing else.

Yes, but the DFs are part of pressure too. And expectation. And tension. And the sort of second serve that you're aiming for. Which is a function of what sort of game you're trying to play, given the opponent. If she could do a noddy second serve and get away with it at Proleague level, say, but here got hammered when she does, she then has to go for more on her second serve and ends up with a lot of DFs.

That's more like it

Julie is only 18 but she's the one who beat Freya and Millie recently.

So glad to see Lissey getting the upper hand this time.

Not a good morning for Lissey so far. Having got the early break to lead 3-0* she loses the next seven games to be 3-6 *0-1
