Twenty-two byes in a 48 draw, so straight into round two of three

QR2: Sarah Beth Grey (GBR) 647 (CH=426 2018) [Q1] v Alisa Yakimoto (BLR) UNR/UNR

Yakmoto is 19 years old, and is 0-16 in ITF events since her first in June 2016

Beth was not in the list of acceptqnces so presumably has been accepted as a late entry. Otherwise she would have been straight into the main draw.

Beth did enter, but withdrew on 22nd March. She would have been 11th in the main draw if she had stayed in - but there have been at least 4 late withdrawals, so might have made the seeds.
Just the two QR1 matches being played today.

The only way of entering would have been as an on site alt or as a QWC which was not needed with vacancies in the draw. Its a bit of a risk to travel to get in as on site alt when there is no guarantee of getting in, so perhaps she's really here to play doubles and singles is just a bonus?

The Sharm events have always been fairly well filled this year, interesting this week it seems randomly to have emptied up. It's even that busy a week tournaments wise.

I notice that Katie B is still on the acceptance list here. Do we know if she has actually travelled? Looking at the Q draw there have obviously been quite a few late withdrawals.

Haven't seen anything from Katie for a week, but Jodie has arrived in Sharm.

Jodie is pretty close to squeezing into FO qualifiers now so she should definitely take any opportunity to gain points

Just had a look and last year last entry into Qualifying was around mid 230's but usually between 200 and 210 so she is a way out. once yesterdays points are added on and others drop I think she is going to be around 230ish.

I just had a look at Jodie's points breakdown. She has 47 points due to drop off in April (if that actually happens !), and another 30 in May. She added 50 last week, and there's a maximum of 10 for this week. Her lowest counter is 5 at hte moment. So I'll be surprised if she moves much in the rankings, and needs some good point-scoring to make the FOQ.

Is Jodie actually in Sharm to play or just to dodge the hotel quarantine required if she'd come back direct from Dubai? IIRC she did something similar after playing in South Africa.

Jodie isn't on the acceptance list - she is listed as automatic withdrawal in favour of Cordoba - and she withdrew from there the same day.
So presumably just for the quarantine - although still waiting for her luggage !

Doesn't surprise me, although the draw isn't out yet.
