In Nairobi, this week, Gabi Paskauskas is joined by older sister, Kristina.

GIRLS

QR1:

Wins for the two Paskauskas sisters, Maria Ustic and Anjali Kotecha

QR2:

Kristina P (seeded 2) lost but younger sister, born 2006, won hers.

A win for Anjali, but Maria lost.  

 

BOYS

QR1:

Miles Groom lost 9-11 in the MTB. Jeevan Samra also lost, as did Segiy Rafiee, and Tom Aston had to retire.

Maceo Simpson got a win

 

QR2:

Maceo Simpson won again

Kenya, J4:

Well done to Anjali Kotecha who makes the main draw.

Maceo lost in a tight match, and Gabia far more easily.


Unfortunately, Anajli has drawn the second seed in the MD.

All the players from last week are still here, and joined by Ananya Vartak.

R1:

Aidan Byrne lost but Scarlett Perkins (age 15) got a win


Cairo, J4:

R1: A win for Cheri Darley (age 17)


Kenya, J4:

R1:

Ananya Vartak and Anjali Kotecha both lost easily.

Imogen still to play

Boys' matches not up yet.

To finish off R1, Nairobi, J4:

Very nice win for Imogen, over the 7th seed.

Wins too for Oli Tarvet and Roy Keegan.

But Freddie Ridout and Will Jansen lost

An easy win for young Imogen Haddad and into the QFs.

A win for Oliver Tarvet too, over the 6th seed

But Roy Keegan lost a real tight one, 7-6(6) in the third set TB, against the 3rd seed

With little left in singles, 2 men and a lady in qualies in Antalya and 2
Womens doubles in the USA, all eyes could firmly be in Kenya , particularly if Oliver can get another win.

Maria Ustic, born 2007, is one of those into the QFs in the doubles here.

So that will be her first ITF ranking points, and make her our third ranked 2007-er

With Ananya+ playing Imogen+, we also have a guaranteed doubles spot.

It is still amazing so many juniors are in Kenya, from a travel

Agreed and doesnt sit too well with many outside of this forum celebrating the fact that we have junior tennis players travelling and competing in such events.  Completely unnecessary aside from gaining points in these events when many others are following the guidelines and not travelling.

I completely take your point, Tennisdad, and agree.

However, if you're implying that this forum shouldn't highlight and celebrate the achievements of the youngsters for these events, then that I don't agree with.

The results are the results, they should be reported, people are interested, and it brings some pleasure to many to see British success. Which is no bad thing.

Moreover, the kids did not take the decisions unilaterally to go, they can't be tarnished with their parents' actions, even if we were all unanimous that their parents actions were wrong in the first place, which is unlikely.

Absolutely not saying the results of the players shouldnt be reported - they are already there after all. Nor the players tarnished, they are children competing - just the decision making of the adults in travelling unnecessarily in these times is highly flawed.  This is a global pandemic and nothing is more important than health. It seems some are willing to take risks presumably for rankings points whilst the playing field is not level.

However there is no school now so the children are not missing on education as they would normally. Also some of the children competing have names that
fit in with the other names on the list so although British they may be living in that country.
