CD is right in general that Gael isn't going. But the reason Gael isn't playing USO is not because of Elina deciding today to withdraw from the event. Gael hadn't even entered initially - so wasn't planning on playing the USO, probably preferred playing the French Open and the clay court events in Europe. Just saying

Several French players aren't on the list like Monfils, Herbert and Tsonga. Presumably they want to play their home slam and not risk anything.

And I don't blame them, I think it's a good idea. Why risk going to the States when there's an equivalent tournament locally on home soil - and some other events closer to home too.

There are 4 WTA events still showing as being on after Roland Garros-Seoul, Linz, Moscow and Limoges. Do you think that the implication of this tweet is that no more will be added to the four or that the four will be called off?

I would more have taken it as they will not be adding to these currently scheduled. Hopefully it will become clearer pretty soon.

Yes, reading it again your take seems more likely...we will see.
I dont know how many of you follow some of our tennis journos - I tend to check twitter of Stuart Fraser, Mike Dickson, George Belshaw, Kevin Mitchell, Simon Cambers, Simon Briggs, David Law, and then overseas folks like Jose Morgado, Michal Samulski, Ben Rothenberg, Christopher Clarey, Jon Wertheim...
Anyway, my point was that none of the Brits has really commented on or shown any real interest in the domestic tennis that is going on , UK Pro, British Tour. Yes, they did for the Battle of the Brits but nothing at the level below. Which surprises me a little - there is something interesting happening at that level and worth commenting on or assessing in terms of what it means for the structure of tennis perhaps - but nothing at all.
Morgado has followed a lot of the exhos around Europe and results thereof; Rothernberg comments on WTT, and some of the high profile exhibitions. But I wouldnt expect these guys to comment on the British Tour or UK Pro events - Morgado did comment on Battle of Brits quite often as it happens.
But just a little surprised none of the Brits took any interest ... surely if they are tennis fans and tennis journos they should be looking beyond the top tier ATP/WTA/Slams and think alittle wider and dig a little deeper?
You raise a valid point , however you may recollect that the UK Pro-Series wasn't well publicized initially. It was all so hush- hush, especially if you compare it to the widely publicized Progress Tour and the two Battle of the Brits (and these events also had the 'big names' linked to it in the initial stages - Emma rad, Andy Murray, Hev etc) . With the Pro-Series, we were basically like scavengers trying to hunt down info here and there - who's playing , who's not, what's the prize money, who's on the entry list etc. It was almost cult-like!
Whilst I am not excusing the omission of the guys you mentioned above, I think that might have been a contributing factor. More-so when you see that the players involved in the Pro-Series e.g Naomi actually think its a good idea that should be built upon. This Classic Week for sure should defo have more coverage.
Seems the USTA are putting prizemoney in, designed to support those players whod miss out on qualies or doubles entries for the us open. Presumably many of those are european or want to be back in europe and some joined up thinking going on , at last!
