Auckland draw stronger than Sydney mens, ranking wise but with less prize money. Power of the appearance fee perhaps?

Cam takes out Paire 6-3, 6-2 which is a very good win, even if Paire can be an erratic player at times - and sometimes within the same game.

An impressively one-sided win for Cam:

L32: Cameron Norrie WR 93 beat Benoit Paire (FRA) WR 55 (CH 18 in 2016) 3 & 2

He'll play 7th seed Shapovalov or Sousa in R2

A hair raising performance from Cam, Paire likely to loose his beard sponsor?

It might be Sousa he plays, up 5-3 in the 3rd and will serve for the match.

And a double dose of the Portuguese, so to speak, for Cam:

L16:  Guido Pella & Joćo Sousa (ARG/POR) CR 175 (129+46) vs (WC) Cameron Norrie & Rubin Statham (NZL) CR 465 (186+279)

Interesting:  Statham's bio says he was born in "Westminster, Great Britain", but he now lives in Auckland, the reverse (after a fashion) of Cam's road to citizenship!

Not GB, but GB born, a great win for Statham in the singles over the 6th seed, Chung. Was5-1 down in the first setand won 7-5 6-3. Unfortunately went on to lose his doubles with Cam.

Cam through in straight sets, be interesting to see how close he will be to Kyle after Aus Open this year in terms of ranking.

Quarter final winnable against Fritz who took out his Master in Isner.
