Boys: Wimbledon 2018 - Grade A (Week 28)

I like Harry's game. Seems to lack a huge shot though.

Harry out vs 14th seed, 6-4 4-6 5-7.

Shame. What a good effort though. True he doesn't have a huge shot but he's quite young (born Dec 2001) and will get a lot stronger

There were so many rallies were Harry would hit a 'big shot', was in control but then didn't penetrate with the next shot that should have been a winner. Would have made the points a lot shorter and won him the match

Still time to develop.

You've got to wonder about the ITF site. How difficult is it????

Wimbledon has it marked that Jacob lost, as you saw, and I was half following it too.

But on the ITF site we've got the result for Jacob:

Daniel MICHALSKIpol.gif  -  gbr.gifJacob FEARNLEY

7-6(3) 5-7 3-6

From the Roehampton thread:

"I'm sure David will start a proper thread (add: he did ) but seemingly the wildcards for Wimbly junios have been announced, and the boys are:

Blu, Jacob F, Jake H, Emile, Anton, Harry and Connor (and Baez from Argentina, who is junior WR 2 - forgot to enter????)"

Glad you think the thread is proper smile   It is not uncommon for top juniors to fail to enter slams and, while Wimbledon is tolerant (Belinda Bencic won the tournament in 2013 as a wildcard in that scenario) other slams are less so (Liam Broady for instance missing out on the French Open in 2011 despite appeals for at least a QWC)

And after all that, the second seed got knocked out, easily, in R1.... (as well as Korda, and quite a few lower seeds too)

And hats off to 'classic grass court-er', Trey Hilderbrand:

Hilderbrand was 59/97 in net approaches. *97* #notatypo

Fairplay award goes to Boyer, as reported by Zoo tennis:

"At 5-4 30-all, Boyer hit a good first serve to earn a match point. During the next rally Forejtek hit a ball that forced Boyer to half-volley near the baseline, which the line judge called out. Boyer immediately said, "no, no, that was in, way in" and the chair umpire, who made no overrule initially, obviously agreed, announcing that the point would be replayed. With another opportunity, Boyer hit a huge first serve that Forejtek couldn't return, and walked off the court a winner, in more ways than one."

Very nice win for Anton against the French lad who is JWR 21 (ex 10) and ATP 1050

But Jake Hersey loses 3&1
