Property developers and the death of non league football clubs

The standard in league 2 is pretty poor. Kelty Hearts, who are only down the road from Cowdenbeath have walked through the league after getting promoted.
There are quite a few players who played in Scottish champ or in league 1, plying their trade in England in non league football and mainly step 2&3

Of course it's not great given the number of league teams and size and spread of the Scottish population. Still dreams to be had and stories to unfold.

Scarborough Athletic promoted to the National league North next season, 15 years after the old club 'Scarborough FC' went out of business. They beat Warrington 2-1 at home in the final, so another failed playoff attempt for them.

Their official YouTube had a stream with comms, so I did have it on in the background for a bit, and pleased they went up. I used to go to Scarborough pretty much every year on hols when I was much younger, and the town is featured on our local news. I remember being conflicted during that Jimmy Glass famous incident as Carlisle was nearby, so liked both clubs, but the original Scarborough never really recovered from going down that day.

Scarborough have an artificial pitch I believe, so the two promoted sides both have artificial pitches. Coincidence?

Gateshead are officially promoted. Far and away the best attacking side in the league

Yeah, Gateshead have had a fantastic season after a few uncertain years. Lots of Newcastle links in their management / playing staff.

It's quite strange. The town has a popn of 120,000, and the wider borough over 200,000, which is a lot bigger popn than a lot of current League One sides, so you'd think they could have the foundations for a solid league club, but then the town is so connected and associated to Newcastle that it's less likely to be sustainable. People keep saying Newcastle is a one club city, but the city proper itself is a similar size to the likes of Leicester and Coventry, who never get that association, but it's basically because there's like an extra 200k in both Gateshead and North Tyneside, where there is no league club, and who's primary club will be Newcastle, and you kind of associate the likes of Gascoigne, Carroll, Steve Stone, Carrick etc. as being from 'Newcastle', rather than Gateshead or Wallsend.

I like to see them do well as a small, local club, and I was hoping they'd got promoted in to the football league ago when they lost to Cambridge U in the National playoff final about 10 years ago, but if they had a Fleetwood type owner, and got themselves into the league and pushed on, it would be quite interesting to see if there was any knock on effect for Newcastle in the years ahead.

Looking like we will have a new arrival into the Scottish League.

The play-off final first leg ended Bonnyrigg Rose 3 Cowdenbeath 0. Cowdenbeath were not helped by having a man sent off in the first half.

Good to see a proper ladder system in Scotland and lots of new clubs entering the pyramid.

I see Stockport are having a wobble and Wrexham ate breathing down their necks for promotion.

Definitely, much better when the likes of Cove, Kelty etc. can genuinely compete to get into the league, rather than the likes of an Annan or Gretna filling in if a club is in trouble. Much better generally (in a competition sense, although not necessarily for the clubs) for those near the bottom of the fourth tier to have something to play for as well late on, rather than their season effectively over once the last playoff place is out of reach.

Yeah, Stockport have lost 4 of their last 6, so definitely struggling, and even a 1-0 loss today (instead of 3-0) would have been much better, but still in their hands, and hopefully they can make it. They absolutely need a positive result against Torquay next to remain in the driving seat.

Stockport promoted
Moneybags AFC Fylde miss out in the playoffs - they must be the most hated club in non league and they are having their named dragged through the mud in the National Press over what their manager did to get sacked at Chesterfield.

Went to my first ever women's match today, Wolves vs Flyde which is a top of the table clash in the 3rd tier. Enjoyed it although finished 0-0 there was a lot of chances. Nice to just park outside and stroll up and pay cash.

Been to about 15 games this year. After getting promoted from Tier 4 last year through "upward movement" we have won the Tier 3 Northern Premier division. Unfortunately rather disgracefully winning the league is not enough for promotion and we have play off today to get into The Championship against Southern champions Southampton, which is being dubbed "Judgement Day". It has been picked up by the BBC to be shown today.

Anyways it has been a please to watch this season. These girls mostly have full time jobs and don't get paid a dime. But the professionalism of the players and the staff despite this has been something else and we have some very good players who could easily be playing at a higher level.

Unfortunate that the losing team today will be the on their knees today, after winning a league but not getting promoted. Only 1 team out of 27 at Tier 3 goes up. Bonkers.

1-0 loss. Player sent off just before half time when already behind. Actually played very well with 10 in the second half and looked like they might grab something but not to be.

York City back in the 5th tier next season after a home playoff final win over Boston United in front of almost 7,500.
