Property developers and the death of non league football clubs

Cant see it happening with R rate at 2 in Northern Ireland & how important it is to get kids back to school. I do agree however that sparsely populated non league football grounds are safer than you weekly Sainsburys shop!

One has to be mindful that a significant proportion of fans are unlikely to comply and many attending non league over 50. I didnt go to Hamlets last game before lockdown 2400 attendance allowed no opportunity for social distancing, the league should have called it off, some of the countries highest Infection & death rates due to COVID in Southwark. I would have gone and watched CVPM crowd 100 on the Tuesday night but lockdown. For any grounds to be opened safely you need that level of understanding and decision making, regretfully I feel that is unrealistic.

Quite a few non league clubs have tie ups with online ticketing companies and I believe the southern league have an agreement in place.
No reason why games cannot be all ticket on reduced capacity.
The stumbling block would be local councils and safety certificates as councils are notoriously slow to act.

Announcement didn't happen. No sign of letting non league crowds in.

FA Cup matches likely to be behind closed doors on 1st Sept.

Step 5 &  6 thinking about delaying their start date.

After a lot of pressure from. Supporters and MP's, the government have clarified guidance that says any clubs from step 3 downwards can now have crowds.
So subject to FA guidance due out today, you can go and watch a non league pre- season friendly.
Steps 1 & 2 are still not allowed as they are deemed elite and will be subject to test events.

Meanwhile Darlington have requested to move back to the arena(25k capacity) to maximise gates as their current ground could not accommodate all season ticket holders on a 13% to 30% limitation.

I welcome the news, just really hope clubs are sensible could easily end up with some of the better supported clubs even at step 5 getting gates of 1000. Thinking Sheppy, Chatham personally I feel there should be a cap at level of average gate last season or 300 If greater than 300 for step 3 & below given its not considered elite regardless of ground size, plenty of matches going on to satisfy everyone.

Likely to be a big turnout from football fans who would normally watch NL which is fine but needs to be managed. Clubs can get greedy & even those that generally do the right thing may abuse the trust that goes with this decision, I appreciate financially things are very tight but given the increasing numbers of cases and we are approaching the Autumn the situation needs very careful management.

Looks like 15% of ground grading capacity which should be more than enough for most clubs @ step 3 and below

15% moving to 30%
The better supported clubs may have to make it all ticket.

Southport are already advising season ticket holders get first choice to try and sell more in advance.

The bigger supported clubs are all moaning as it is 300 going to 600 and not 15% of capacity.
Bury, FC United, Scarborough etc all push MP's to raise as an issue.
Bury have 800 season ticket holders and were working on gates of around 1200.

Which is pretty fair, it prioritises those that go every week. Bit worried about what Hamlet will do no benefactor depending on gates for revenue and have so many discounted season tickets. 50% discount for NHS/emergency workers, armed services, local authority workers, PIP receive Rs , unwaged, over 61 juniors under 13 £1 the rest pay their age for a season ticket etc... 61 will go up to 62 this year purely to antagonise this born in 1959. There is one 59er who goes purple when you tease him about it.

May also invest in a couple of step 4 season tickets too there are a couple of clubs I go to often. Total cost still likely not to come close to a PL ST and should allow access to football every week.

But so many other great NL teams round there. Whitehawk, Lewes, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill its an Isthmian League football fest. That said the really good stuff is in the 1st division of the Southern Combination and FA Vase which can only be described as non league football Nirvana. The ultimate in social distancing cradling your pitch side pint of Harveys. 12 sugars in your half time tea and a mixed meat burger dripping with mixed meat saturated fat the complete antithesis of the Amex.

I do go to Worthing occasionally when no Brighton game as it's just down the road from me. Have to say I really enjoy it. Can decide to go 30 mins before game, stand up, great little atmosphere, a few pints. Used to be funny when my sons PE teacher used to play for them and him and his mates used to give him abuse!

Your sons PE teacher obviously an exceptionally good footballer, I presume they didnt play with him often. My footie coach & Grammar (just an English teacher) used to destroy us in training he played for mighty Malvern Town in the midland combination. To put in context he played for GB Universities at both Football & Cricket but so many other people play footie as kids all the future plumbers, window fitters & scaffolders means the standard of athlete playing non league is still immense when compared to tennis.

At Comp two of my friends when they moved into the sixth form played for Worcester City one for a decade, technically he used to destroy everyone in the park & most of us played for the school team, until last year also captained the birmingham overspill town I grew up ins cricket team (he must be 52 ish). From an athleticism perspective he was pretty normal.

The other played just in the 6th form as a 16,17 yr old before went to Uni, technically about the same (perhaps not as good) but an amazing athlete and big 6ft 1 13 stone. CB in NLN @ 16. Went on to captain a Championship club an injury away from First division after Koing Liverpool out of FA Cup. He was a couple of school years younger than me but played scrum half for our year 7 (U12) team when he was in year 5 (under 10!). I dont think I ever saw an opponent touch him. So good at tennis he used to hit with all the pros to warm them up at Wimbledon while working on the ground staff as a student at Roehampton, always played County champion etc but no intensive coaching too busy with everything else.

Southport v Huddersfield friendly tomorrow cancelled as Huddersfield players tested positive.

Southport next match is away at Marine on Tuesday - a local derby and government guidelines limit crowds to 200. The match is all ticket and the away support has sold out.
I suspect with no crowd limits the expected gate in the current circumstances would be 800-1000.
