Property developers and the death of non league football clubs

Had to be available to work this weekend so limited as to capacity to travel and therefore missed Hamlets 90th minute heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Bath City. So frustrating to nearly get an away point against the best team I have seen at Champion Hill this season (where we were well beaten).

Got my fix at Cray Valley Papermill, a 1-0 win for the millers. An early strike from distance securing the points on a blustery afternoon. I went with my 17 year old who thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Very welcoming and cosy bar at half time, £15 for both of us including two coffees and a programme! Still no Bovril.

So Town made the Trophy semis today, 3-2 extra time away win at fylde.

Best run ever for Town. Semis on 21 and 28 March. Marked in diary.

Notts County, Halesowen from level 8, and Concord (Level 6) or Royston (level 7) are in the semis also.

Get to the final and it will be around the playoffs in terms of timing, better to have success though and I do hope a wembley trip is possible!

Great win at Fylde apart from away at Notts County as tough a draw as you could get hopefully you will avoid each other in the semis. As you would expect by this stage particularly given the sides they have already beaten Royston are a very good side concord should be too much for them, wouldnt wish a trip Concord on my worst enemy. Nice fans but awful ground for the level of football at which they play.

Hamlet went down to bottom of the table Tonbridge Angels. 2600 turned up to see Tonbridge Nick it in the 84th minute, nice strike from about 25 yds finding the bottom corner.

Hamlet get some amazing crowds, Town average around 1300 this season, given they are 2nd...Hamlet get double that!

I think there has been some growth in the fan base hopefully season ticket numbers next season will be closer to 900 from this seasons 600 but undoubtedly about 150- 200 are on a curiosity visit. Tonbridge brought plenty perhaps 150 and 300 or so turn up for a beer and a chat probably still dont know the score!

Southport were supposed to trek to Kings Lynn today. We asked for an inspection last night. We we told not required. We asked for an inspection at 8am told not required.
Team half way down when game was called off. Our secretary is fuming.

The NW Counties decided to put on a groundhog this weekend and it was very well supported.
They had a match on Friday night at Sandbach, a few matches around South Manchester on Saturday and then Congleton and Winsford on Sunday.

I've never been to one of these matches, but I decided to go to Congleton this morning.
There was a bumper crowd of almost 500 despite traffic issues in the town. Groundhoppers accounting for at least half the gate and they came from all over the country.
Decent game, plenty of goals and a nice club - another ground added to my list.

I understand there is a Scottish trip soon and an Easter set of fixtures based around the Hellenic league.

The Danes do a storming ground hop next weekend, game Thursday and Friday night, Sunday game at 11:00, 2 at 13:00, another at 15:00 one at 17:00 another at 18:00. Plus a game Monday night.

All of the ones you describe and the above on my bucket list.

Yesterday conquered my agoraphobia (and effectively self isolated from corona virus) at CVPM along with 85 others. Lowest in the league by 6. An absolutely storming game and amazing value @ 87.5p a goal 5-3. Ramsgate have had a decent run of form and some really exciting football ensued.

CVPM won because of some effective coaching, really good to see the players looking and listening to the coach no moaning just repositioning, acceleration of passing tempo and it impacted the game. Another real treat, Presently in 4th with a game in hand over 3rd, 3 over 2nd & continue playing like that and tiny CVPM could be looking at being in pole position in the play offs and potential Isthmian PL football. If Hamlet go down not sure where my loyalties would lie.

Nice article in the NL paper on Harrogate and a letter of thanks from a Harrogate fan (Graham Carr) to Fylde praising the quality of their welcome and general friendliness.

Corinthian keep the SCEFL flying in the vase but will have to beat two Northern League Clubs to win the vase. Will endeavour to make the first leg to lend my support.

Speaking of Harrogate, are you following the NL run in Jon? Despite both dropping points this weekend, it still looks like it'll be either Barrow or Harrogate going up automatically, and that's fine with me as one is in the next county to me (Barrow), and the other is featured on our BBC Look North news, so a local(ish) northern club either way.

Think I'd just about prefer Barrow, because Carlisle vs Barrow back again as a league fixture (before my time) would be pretty cool, and they do get decent crowds there, but certainly wouldn't begrudge Harrogate.

Oh, I suspect that Jon just might be following events in the National League

Been getting closer. Indeed would have been down to 2 points between Barrow and Harrogate if Harrogate hadn't conceded a late own goal equaliser yesterday. As it is, the gap is 4 points with each having 9 games left.

I can see both teams dropping points and Notre County closing in, but I think they will run out off games to catch the top two.

I'd agree with that Paul. A few extra matches to play and I wouldn't be as confident, but Barrow are at least 4 games ahead of everyone (bar Harrogate, and Halifax I suppose, but the 27 GD swing effectively adds an extra point to make it 4 games), so they could lose 3 of their final 9 matches and still have it in their hands over everyone (bar Harrogate). Notts or someone else like Yeovil could quite feasibly finish above Harrogate, as Harrogate would only need to lose 2 matches, but it would take a momumental mess up from Barrow not to finish at least 2nd now.

Barrow are generally 2/7
Harrogate 10/3
Yeovil 22/1
Boreham Wood 33/1
Notts 60/1

I have been following ! I went to match yesterday, against Bromley and it really should have been a win, sadly Bradley came on late in 2nd half and an own goal followed.

Town are really solid and have had a great run since xmas period overall. 4 points over 9 games isn't too bad and weve pulled it slowly back since it was 7 points and a game in hand to barrow.

I think Barrow are still favourites, my son and I are hoping we can make the play off final at wembley. Sadly his graduation ceremony from oxford is the same weekend and we cant get to Wembley, as family will all be in oxford. An fa trophy final 2 weeks later would be great instead if we can see off County in the semis.

If you look at the bottom, you will see that having big money doesn't guarantee success. Moneybags AFC Fylde will get relegated.
