 Cross posting from another thread: Something happened at Woking, but I've no idea what. Gabi had a close first round, 3 set loss against a good player, Diana Marcinkevica, but then withdrew from the first round of the doubles with Freya Christie (who also hasn't been back since), and then withdrew from Chiswick the following week. And that has been that, Gabi hasn't been seen since.

Ah, clearly Gabi missed a few months in the second half of last year. But I hadn't actually heard / read before that it was glandular fever.

No, me netiher. Makes the form even more remarkable, given the way other players have struggled after glandular fever: Heather, Christina McHale, Robin Soderling etc.

Yes, absolutely.

Spain and the Spanish approach obviously really suits her.

Yes, I agree, that's what raised my eyebrows too... and the timing. She only started working with them in November, after recovering from the glandular fever... and won her 1st 25k tournament back a month later... and now another two within another two months. That's an extremely rapid pay off. She seems very comfortable playing right now, let's hope the partnership continues to flourish.

Whats impressive about Gaby for me is the two illness setbacks shes had and the way she seems to have handled it. She also seems very composed for her age and doesnt have the bottle crash finish line yips weve seen from the likes of Heather, Jo, Laura and Katie B over the couple of years. Wouldnt be surprised to see her as GB number 1 by end of the decade.

I think Jo may hang on until the end of the decade but I agree she is in it to win it.

Welcome back Jaggy the board had lurched to the far right in your absence, lots of support for the grammar school educated lying down winter olympians which is a whole body position more obscure than the sitting down sports in which our public school educated lottery funded summer athletes harvest their medals, and of course lurid discussions about the weather in Scotland in your absence. It is cold. I think even Indy wears his pyjamas under his onezy during february.

The odd bit of doubles banter but to be fair to Luke Bambridge he was worth listening to and indeed his interview with Mike C a highlight.
