Yep, Nishikori vs Goffin followed Granollers vs Monfils, another epic.

If the ladies can have 6-0 0-6 then final set matches then so can Andy and Phillip.

And Mr Murray wins it:

L32: (2) Andy Murray WR 3 d Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) WR 24 6-4 3-6 6-0

Congratulations to Mr Murrray, but that is an absurd hour to make someone play when they have another match the next day.

Got in about 11 last night, realised he hadn't played and toyed with the idea of staying up to watch a bit.  Glad I decided against seeing I had a 6am start this morning!!  Anyway, very well done Mr Murray!

I took my tablet upstairs but couldn't get on tennistv for some odd reason - I'll have to get that sorted today, it has worked fine before that. So I watched livescores for the first set, snuggled down and tried to sleep, couldn't, checked the scores again and Andy was 0-3 down in the second. That didn't exactly help me sleep. . . I dozed off, woke again at Lord knows what time, checked the scores and Andy was serving at 5-0 in the decider. So I livescored the last game and then tried to get to sleep! (I sleep badly anyway, waking up several times a night, it wasn't Andy's fault)

So now he has defended his points from last year and any more is gravy. However I won't be upset if he loses today, playing again after such a late finish is ridiculous.

L16:  (WC) Marcel Granollers (ESP) WR 62 (CH = 19 in July 2012) vs (2) Andy Murray WR 3

The head-to-head is 4-1 in Andy's favour (wins in Rome in 2006, the AO in 2009, Montréal in 2013 & Rome again last year, so three of them on clay.  The one match Andy's lost so far came in 2013, when he retired with the score level:  3-6 7-6(5).)  Andy's match may have been played in the wee small hours, but he at least wrapped it up in an hour & 48 minutes, whereas the Spaniard had to battle for three hours & 20 minutes to get the better of Monfils!

Yes, ridiculous as it all was ( though to be a bit fair to the schedulers and their questionable arrangements the matches became a bit comedic, especially when Kuznetsova vs Stosur went into another final set TB ), I reckon Andy should be better ready to go.

So I see him progressing to at least the QF here, whether ideal or not.

Stadium 4 for Berdych vs Gasquet then Stadium 3 for Berdych vs Tsonga. Have they issues with Berdych or Frenchmen?

I actually like stadium 3 and would still consider it as a "show court", albeit a bit smaller than the other 2.  However, Court 4 is an outside court with much more limited seating. I am very surprised that they would have put Berdych v Gasquet right out there.

Big opportunity for Andy this week, if playing at a ridiculous time in the morning doesn't derail it. No Djoker or Fed. Nice draw to play Granola Bar.

I was surprised to see that there was seemingly no schedule change, a 1AM start is pretty irritating. Murray should take this as long he's physically okay, but the possible QF opponent will be very tough.

Andy's match should be under way fairly shortly, as the women's match which preceded it has now ended, but here's another bit of short-sighted scheduling:  Granollers & his partner, Marc López, are the sixth seeds in the doubles.  The remaining second-round match pits them against Pablo Cuevas & yet another Spaniard, David Marrero.  That encounter is scheduled to follow the Nestor/Paes vs López (F)/Mirnyi on the Stadium 3 Court after the inevitable "suitable rest".  Needless to say,  the preceding match finish some time ago... disbelief  Heaven only knows when it will get under way!

Then again, difficult to schedule Andy much earlier and generally players always play their singles before their doubles, plus Granollers himself had a lateish long singles battle.

On serve so far, Andy 2-1*
