It was a shame to see Jos injury woes continue. Whatever she does, she has been our top British player and a top world player and deserves a lot of credit. I hope she is able to at least finish her career playing and one final season , if she gets fit, would be something Im sure we would all like to see. Shes a bright person though so I am sure will be successful in whatever she does as and when tennis finishes.

I've speculated a lot to myself on the prognosis for Jo's knee(s), with the limited facts available. What we do know is the issue stems back to 2019, Jo had difficulty getting appropriate treatment during the Covid "bubbles", surgery is not an option and she now suspects the problem will be with her for the rest of her playing career. A year ago, Jo spoke of playing 2 more season before considering her options.

It seems Jo is still able to put in high level performances when able (Nottingham title, first ever win against top 5 player Elina Svitolina) 

Don't wish to appear gloomy but I speculate, Jo will either retire this year or hope her knees will stabilise with enough rest, to put in some reasonable performances in 2022. Though, given how hard it's been for Andy to regain a top 100 ranking, I fear Jo would have her work cut out to make much of an impact on her ranking in 2022.

 She was interesting in the Radio 5 Live tennis discussion tonight. Yes her comments on her "rubbish" Slams 2021 and on Emma. Also that doing her podcasts had made her think more about being interviewed herself and that she was trying to be more open without laying herself bare. And it felt a bit that she was more open.

Re a short general discussion on covid, without somehow managing to ask her directly it was pretty clear that she still hasn't been vaccined. It was how she commented regarding points about likely tough quarantine restrictions for the Aus Open for non vaccinated players with her saying it was something she would have to consider

 I don't know why she did that interview/discussion. The questions were all difficult subject matters for her: Emma's US Open title, Covid-19 vaccine and is she going to retire in the near future ? Jo's answers were bland, diplomatic, rarely giving any insight into her own thought process. She could have spoken about her own SFs in Slams, dealing with the pressure, playing well in the tournament then her form collapsing on the big occasion. Her approach on the Covid-19 vaccine is a PR disaster. Then there is the knee injury that appears to prevent her from playing more than one week at a time; which has huge implications for what she can achieve.

 I don't know why any tennis player does any interview/discussion, for exactly those reasons. Unless they are mandatory, in which case answers that are bland, diplomatic, rarely giving any insight into the player's own thought process strikes me as the only sensible strategy.

 

Other folk seem to like them, though, regardless.

As I indicated I thought so too, relative to what I have heard before from Jo. As she said herself she is never going to bare her soul. I'm clearly easily satisfied
