Weve gone 4 hours without a jo Konta related discussion so just thought I'd drop a post in here to keep things going....

Apart from the forum being quiet for 4 hours Jo herself has also been quiet on social media. She has made her last post before she played in Paris. I think we should nominate a Jo free day once a week.!

Any thoughts on which day of the week Jo has for a free day ? How about Sunday ?  wink

Thomas Hogstedt started with Ostapenko about a week ago I gather. JO seems to have rediscovered her mojo!

Is this a reference to Jelena Ostapenko rather than Johanna Konta?

Although confusing, I would imagine given the context of the comment it's Ostapenko and not Konta. Esp as JoKo is out and Ostapenko has reached the 3rd round...for the first time since she won the title a few years ago.

But possibly a comment tinged with irony

Irony was certainly the trigger but it also leads us to speculate on what might have happened behind the scenes, as the switch happened very quickly after Jo announced the break.

Also, how successful TH's relationship might be with Ostapenko compared to Jo?  I would guess Ostapenko is less inclined to be an independent thinker?

In any case, I doubt if Hogstedt would have had enough time to affect Ostapenko's game. I don't follow J.O. much but she does seem to have gained maturity during the hiatus.

JO has gone out in the 3rd round to Badosa  Gilbert of Spain. In a way glad she didn't go onto win otherwise  probably  comments would have made about  JoKo not having Hogstedt as coach anymore.

I shall try to have a Jo free day on Sunday. In the meanwhile did she have to quarantine for 14 days on her return from Paris?

No, Jo is "an elite sportsperson", and will be exempt. (That's assuming you can trust the government website !!)

This is not relating to Jo's tennis career but more another enterprise as a property developer. Back in April 2019 a company called Arris Homes Limited was set up to buy and sell real estate. Jo seemed to be the sole director and I don't think any accounts have been published yet. Anyway in September  2020 Jo resigned as a director and her boyfriend partner took over as  director. I'm sure they've got an accountant and legal people busy as well.

Could be purely for business or financial purposes or maybe, Jo wants fewer distractions to concentrate more on her tennis. Lets hope it's the latter and a sign she's not retiring any time soon. Will be interesting to see if there are more podcasts. I think her boyfriend is sole director of the The Sniff Club Ltd as well.

With no-one below her, who began the French Open ranked in the top 50, reaching the RG QF ( 3 above her, 5 outside the top 50 ), Jo will remain WR 13 in the next rankings.

So she is very likely to be a top 16 seed at the Aus Open if it takes place as scheduled

I think the way the ranking system is  Jo is still going to be highly ranked until the clay court season of 2021. She only got points at Monterrey before the season was  suspended. Where  the problem lies will be in defending 2019 clay court points in 2021.

Jo has broken her silence on twitter, arousing the likes of Jonathon Pinfield, Rob Curling and Emily Webley-Smith !!!

More important is that the 747's are being taken out of service! I had missed that was happening today. I used to work for BA many years ago, for around 6 years, and travelled on business all over the world (most of the US and down to Oz and across to Asia), and loved the 747-400. I was fortunate enough to fly first class most of the time, as a senior manager on business it was one of the perks we got, and sat next to or near many famous people - Hugh Grant, Joe ****er, Cybill Shepherd are 3 that come to mind.

Although I was in first most of the time at the front of the plane, the upstairs section was my favourite - although I got first class travel on personal trips, for my honeymoon, we got business class in the upper deck, and I just loved the space, 4 or 5 rows of seats, maybe 30 or so in total in the section and it felt like being in your own little oasis. In those days, BA was the real deal unlike the shambolic mess they are now!

smile.gif I did once get upgraded to fly on the top deck but found I was trapped in this somewhat confined space by the 1st class area below!

I have only travelled long-haul twice - both times to the US with BA. Out on a 747-400, back on a 777, and out on an A380, back on a 777. At least I got one flight on each of these two giants !

Travelled mostly in Europe but also to N America and Far East on business (747s). Mainly business class but occasionally popped back to tourist to sleep across empty seats!! Mainly travelled BA but recall Air Canada and Cathay Pacific looked after business passengers pretty well.
