Shalimar Talbi, who is just 17, and would appear to have considerable promise, has now successfully done for Beth as well as Emma R. cry

FQR: GREY, Sarah Beth (GBR) [q1] 453 lost to TALBI, Shalimar (BLR) [q11] 580=CH 17yrs 3-6 3-6

Em was the one applying all the pressure on return, so naturally got broken to 15 from nowhere to lose the first set 4-6 with two double faults.

4-6 0-0*

Except Em doesn't believe in giving in. She's just pulled two breaks back, so is in the match again, even if she still needs some holds before she is fully back in it.
4-6 *4-3

Emily gets one of those two holds, then finally the second on her 3rd SP, after saving a BP too.
Now, can she be our second player to make the MD? 4-6 6-4

And takes the set after a really hard fought game.

Gutsy.

And now Emily has gone a double break up in the 3rd... If she can keep this up, that was a great intervention you made there Paul, when she was 0-3 down in the 2nd! biggrin

For as long as I follow this sport I will never, ever, tire of calling it wrong and having one of our girls make me look like and idiot.

Fabulous!

Huge performance there from Emily in the second half of the match to turn things around, and at least we have, finally, 2 qualifiers out of the original 5, even if from the outset it seemed we should have 3-4.

Doubles draw is out now, singles still to come. Unfortunately 3 of the 4 GB players in the doubles draw meet in the first round.

R16: Emma LAINE/ Samantha MURRAY (FIN/GBR) [3] 606 (332+274) vs Ines MURTA/ Laetitia PULCHARTOVA (POR/CZE) 1195 (482+713)
R16: Nuria PARRIZAS-DIAZ/ Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (ESP/GBR) 815 (534+281) vs Alicia BARNETT/ Sarah BETH-GREY (GBR/GBR) [4] 727 (518+209)

Still can't see the singles MD, but in the OOP tomorrow Emily is there.

Lissey is there now. She plays Emily's doubles partner; her draw is the better one.

R32: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [Q] 524 vs Pemra OZGEN (TUR) [5] 281 (CH:207 May 14)

R32: Alicia BARNETT (GBR) [Q] 539 vs Nuria PARRIZAS-DIAZ (ESP) 337 (CH:289 June 14)

I do believe that there's a former top 20 player in the draw, based on this tweet it sounds like this tournament
