Week 31 - ITF ($15K) - Dublin, Ireland Carpet

Been a good week for Irish sport, here, Punchy McFightface returning, and their womens hockey team going on a Cinderella at the World Championships to the final.

A few problems with the on screen scoreboard.

Enjoyable stuff.
Emily shades the frist set, 6-4

I'm loving the commentary - the guy makes every point sound like the best thing he's ever seen

Emily deserved that first set overall - and takes it 6-4

But she was rather passive, Sasha making more of the running, and it was certainly a lot closer than many (or the rankings) would have predicted.

I've noticed the stream is a bit behind real time so may well be different, but Emily has just broken in the second set and now has a solid lead. 6-4 *3-1. Sasha did break early in the second, but it's 3 games in a row now for Emily.

But Sasha then breaks back (lots of breaks in this second set).

Sasha is doing a lot of damage with her forehand.

Lovely for Emily App that she's got that monkey off her shoulder and won an ITF event.

And, overall, she deserved it.

But Sasha showed some very good stuff and you can see a lot of qualities.

Indeed, let's hope that some folk that matter ( not saying CD doesn't ! ) see that re Sasha.

Well done to both.

So, third time lucky then for Ms. Appleton in dingles finals, and she claims that elusive first singles title. Very well done to her. Grinding away week after week without a break, finally yields the reward.

Just as hearty a congratulations to Ms. Hill, who has been nothing short of a revelation. I can't see any reason after viewing that match that she won't go on quite easily to, at the very lest, secure a ranking. What a way to announce yourself.
Surely must be given some dispensation by the LTA now.

Both still have things to refine in their game, and it's hard to say exactly where each will get, but there seems to be considerable room for further heights still yet to be scaled in both cases.

Congratulations to Tennis Ireland & Carrickmines for an excellent, exemplar, event. Compare this to the shambles of the $60K in Lexington. Hope the LTA take notice.

An excellent week, our 13th GB womens singles title of 2018, and following on from Fran last week, means consecutive weeks with a title

Yep, great week for Sasha and was definitely in the match but deserved win for Emily and very pleased for her. She alluded to the pressure and being desperate to win in that post match interview.

Also, I can think of worse 15k events to win than this one. A good crowd and even little things like ball kids and line judges - there's been some rather depressing looking settings I've seen in some streams over the years. Plus, you'll very rarely win an event with that sort of broadcasting available. I'm not sure how many people would have been tuning in, but I thoroughly enjoyed that coverage.

Confirms she is playing in Chiswick next week and hopefully this will remove any pressure she may have been experiencing.
