Samantha, as with Freya before her, succumbs in a close third set to the higher ranked player, 6-7(4) 6-4 4-6

Hopeful that both good performances can be carried forward soon to more fruitful returns.

I am again reliably informed that Sam's match was the 1,000th completed women's professional match of 2018 for GBR.
We have won 504 of them
This is better than 2017, when we only won 479 of the first 1,000 matches.

Pity that neither Freya nor Sam was able to turn the third set into a fantastic win. Both of them have the ability and the pedigree to do so, or at least in their histories they do. Sam especially I'd hoped might make it. Still the results are encouraging, as ABB notes - but only in so far as similar situations can soon be converted into wins.

Samantha salvaged something from the day with a routine win in the doubles.
R16: Murray/Omae (GBR/JPN) [4] 531 defeated (WC) Leduc/Sleeth (CAN/CAN) UNR (1201 + UNR) 6-2 6-2

Shame they didn't get easier 1st round draws to reap the points rewards.

Encourgaing results but both Sam and Freya are not getting those wins at the higher level at the moment.

They are both down for the 2 25k's in the UK. Hopefully they can get some big wins there.
