Who was the British player of the Grass Court Season?

Having seen the grass court weeks play out and tracking the wins of our players in singles, doubles and qualies, I thought it would be interesting to see who folks on the Forum thought had been our player of the grass court season overall - singles and doubles, everything and every week taken into account?

I have been quite selective in who I have put on the poll - the top half dozen wins players in singles and doubles and added mixed and a couple of juniors into the lot as well.

Realise a couple of pairs are still playing mixed, boys singles so feel free to wait if that makes a difference!

I have set it to close one week from now - never sure if that works though!

Who was the best British player over the Grass Court Season?

This difficult.
Haven't seen any of the juniors or some of the doubled players so that immediately discounts them unless I go on results only.
Potentially I could pick Kyle on the basis that he has improved on grass since last year but best player is a tie between Jay and Harriet for me. Or maybe Katie B as she got a final. Therefore I pick nobody at the moment! (Sorry)

The grass season is not yet finished! Some great performances but is the question, top performer or shown the most improvement because none of the other players can beat Kyle on grass.

Being frank, I dont think I want to get into a long esoteric debate on the nature of the question! I guess, overall, all things considered in terms of performances, singles and doubles, who would you rate as our top performer. Relative to whatever criteria you want to determine...absolute best, relative best, could a man beat a woman, who exceeded expectations. Similar to the BBC allocating Sports personality, not defined, let you decide how you want to vote.

I am not intelligent enough to debate the meaning of the question I am afraid!

Know what you mean Oakie. I took the question as more the most "wow!" factor over the grass season so I guess more related to improvement.

I am so far in my choice in a minority of one though to some extent I understand the leader.

I see where you are coming from Indi - I had to think about it myself, but looked up the resuts to check my instincts (after voting!)

Well the best player is Kyle. I am however going to use the sports personality of the year metric which has absolutely nothing to do with personality and little to do with performance. But it isn't over until the fat lady sings.

Perhaps I should retitle it "British Player of the Grass Court Season" without saying best or top??!

Probably better in keeping with how it seems you meant it in the more open SPOTY sort of way.

And if changing it, good to change it now while the thread is still fairly new.

I'm curious to know who the "someone else" is?

Or someone elses. Since 2 votes.

I voted for Swan.  First WTA qualification.  First Wimby main draw win.  First top 50 win.  And some entertaining interviews and articles (more sPoty 'ish) I guess.

I voted for Harriet right at the beginning of the poll. She finished with 8-5 in singles, 4-4 in doubles and 4-1 in mixed doubles. Three 100k tournaments, Eastbourne and Wimbledon, and collected 140 ranking points.

OK, so Katie B picked up 246 points in the same period (with 90 from Southsea), but was 8-5 in singles, 0-2 in doubles and 0-1 in mixed.

Mr Evans. With a wild card and a bit of luck, it could have been him there yesterday instead of Anderson.
