Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon - men's singles (grass)

Not sure about Paire for Andy. I know he's not liked by many but is a very decent tennis player on his day.

Andy did beat him in the last year's Wimbledon L16 in 3 reasonably tight sets, and although clearly had his hip issue was playing not bad. And I see that he took Federer to a 3rd set TB in Halle. Can certainly see Paire taking a set and then it could be a problem.

CD was saying some quite good things about Bolt in the qualifying thread but relatively I would hope and think that Kyle will have rather too much for him and that's a good R1 draw but Djokovic potentially in R3 isn't, though R3 would be matching Kyke's seeding and possibly current general grass court ability.

All the best to them and all the other Brits.

There's a fascinating piece by Matthew Syed in today's Times about an interview he conducted with Andy during Queen's & a follow-up chat with Judy about a telephone call from Andy when he 15 following a conversation with Rafa that decided him to go off to Spain to learn his trade (subscription required).

Paire, I Believe, had at least one MP in that Fed match in Halle. Useless fact - Paire's beard is sponsored by a barber.

Murrays route - no chance!!

As for Kyle

R1: Bolt
R2: Sugita/Klahn
R3: Djokovic
R4: Thiem
QF: Kyrgios/Zverev
SF: Del Potro/Murray/Nadal
F: Federer

Murray, will do well to ever get back into the top 20.  He will probably be a top 50 floater now for few years before he retires.  Murray's recent matches tell us nothing.

Vs Kyrios- he was clowning, treated it like a exhibition match.

Vs Stan- even when in stanimal mode, Stan was always a weak grass player, and with him injured, this win means nothing.

Vs Kyle- Kyle is average grass player, probably top 50 at best.

So we have no idea of Murray's real form or ranking right now.

it is great you are supporting Andy just like you did in the past

I'm not expecting much from Andy, If he can Squeeze out a couple of wins and his body holds up that he can get a good preparing for the hard court season. That would be a sucess in my eyes.

Though I saw nothing there that wasn't at least reasonably arguable ( I didn't see the Kyrgios match but read that he could have been much more attentive). And I am a huge Andy supporter and clearly hoping for very much better than that.

Cam versus the traitor. Interesting match, traitdene's form has been pretty average this year. 50-50 about right.

Fun with names, let me play.  Dumbdenburg sounds about right.  My 11 year old passing gas is more insightful than your comments.

Gulbis knocked out Del Potro last year on his way to 3rd round so Jay gonna be big outsider there

From Ben Rothenberg:

Peter Polansky (@PPolansky) has set an Open Era record, becoming the first man to be a lucky loser three times in a row (or even three times in one year).

Gulbis looked pretty determined at the qualis (although - as reported - a little precious and full of himself)

Don't think his tennis was back to old levels, though.

Apparently Ben means in Slams. He was a LL in the Aussie and French Opens. And if you are going to snatch a LL place anywhere Slams seem good places. Lucky, lucky, lucky ...

People probably know most of Christian Harrison's story, but it really should be read time and time again, with awe and respect:

Alan Mackin seemed to be a lucky loser every week back in the 00's

Wow, just unbelievable. Good luck to Christian, and it would be good to see him prosper now...
