Week 24 - ITF ($100k) - Manchester, Grass

Yes unfortunate draw for the Brits, given the number there. The only non Brit with a chance is Emily so hopefully she gets revenge. Highly unlikely any will qualify, one would be a success Id say.

Eden Richardson although unranked has had a spectacular start to her college career in the US in way of comparison Cam Norrie made the elite 8 (but was never an NCAA champion singles or doubles ) as a freshman in singles. Eden won the doubles and made the singles tournament loosing a very close match in the round of 64.

2018 NCAA Doubles Champion
2018 NCAA Singles Championships Selection
2018 NCAA Doubles Championships Selection
2018 ITA Doubles All-American
2018 First Team All-SEC
2018 SEC All-Freshman Team
2018 ITA Rookie of the Yearly

The SEC is the most competitive of all the power conferences in college tennis. Of 14 teams 11 were selected to play in the NCAA team championship (including the no 1,5,7,9 and 10 seeds). Eden was straight in playing at the number 1 slot for her college from the get go ie. up against the best players in the SEC from day 1 (varying from winning ITF 15K - 25K standard) .

Of the 83 British ladies in US college tennis programmes which the Optimist has been able to track down, we have 18 players in power conference programmes but only 2 players playing no 1 ie. up against the best players week in week out, Eden and Lauryn John Baptiste at Arizona State in the PAC12 (4 selected for NCAA out of 11, Oregan State do not run a womens tennis programme)

It will be very interesting to see how she goes through the summer and how much support she gets in the way of wildcards

Its a shame that Ola Pitak doesnt have as good a draw as her older sister and others... but thems the breaks and it is a 100K after all.

Horrible draw for Ola. Especially as she needs a result here to keep a ranking.

I don't expect Ola to win as such but just to say that Sanchez is the woman who Lucy Brown basically nearly beat at WImbly qualis a couple of years back.

I watched most of it and she basically was pretty useless on grass.

I know she's had a few wins since but to say that her ranking is not a 'grass' ranking is an understatement

And she only played the doubles at Surbiton (presumably forgot to enter?) and lost in the first round. So no practice of note on grass.

Ola has the sort of game that doesn't actually do much but tries to make herself hard to beat - the ball comes back and you can blow yourself up. There's a chance that Maria does exactly that.

Just about to post that CD, unbelievable. Long way to go, but that's a huge surprise. Here's me thinking Olivia had a bit more chance in her match, yet she's lost the first 8 games.

Really hope Vicki can keep this up.

 Absolutely.

And although Tammi lost in her first match at Surbiton, I saw a bit of it and it was against Duval, who was playing very well, and it was in three sets, and a good match. So it's not like she's out of form or anything.

Mind you, Vicki did pretty well too, against Asia, the score was a bit harsh.

Going to be hard to get to the finish line though....

6-2 4-1*

Allen 1/20 in play to beat Patterson, who'd have thought that was possible.

5-2*, one more game for a HUGE win. With Patterson the 5th seed I was checking / hoping that the winner of this would have faced one of the 4 all GB ties to guarantee one in the final qualifying round, but it's the personal who beat Olivia French awaiting the winner of this.
