If this tournament and Eastbourne are of the same status, why is the prize money different?

Im never actually sure which is correct. Birmingham prizemoney is showing as $820k with total financial commitment at $936k (as I have put above now)

Eastbourne is $750k prizemoney and $852k total financial commitment.

As to why they are different - isnt that often the case? eg Madrid and Rome and Beijing all have the same status but different prizemoney as far as I can tell.

I have to admit, I don't know myself. I was just struck by it because they were on the board one after each other and I wondered. It does make sense that it's sponsorship rather than being tied to a particular title level though.

From press conference, reported on Twitter

They might have to give her one. I don't know exactly how it works but aren't 2 WCs initially for top 20 players to take up?

Yes, that is right, but if those two WC's aren't taken up the places revert to the next on the DA list.

Interesting to see which Brits are playing. Konta is in the main draw and you would assume Boulter and Watson would get the other wildcards.
Broadly hasn't entered Ilkley, which suggests she may be at Birmingham.
Not sure who else will turn up in qualifiers - Gabi, Harriet and Katy look like they are playing Ilkley.

Love the typo of 'Broadly'. Especially as Naomi is one of the least 'broad' players on the tour (talking physically, not in her opinions). Bit like Robin Hood's 'Little John'.

I suspect Katie Swan may end up in Birmingham qualifiers.
