Good to see Fran having a go in south America.

Having watched some videos of her play, clay would seem to suit her game best.

Comfortable enough start for Fran, although she had held a 5-2 lead in the first set before letting it slip a bit. Still she was ahead all the match.

Won't be long before Fran is top 500.

At the moment, with her 2 points so far from this week, Fran will have the same number of points as Lissey Barnett (1 pt so far), once their points go on next week. Both will have 34 pts altogether and this will lift both just within the top 650. This will then mean that GB has 20 women within the top 650, which is not a bad achievement.

But the downside of this is that is all. One two other ranked Brit woman have each scored a point to improve her ranking this year outside this top 20. The next set of ranked women are Emily Arbuth, currently at college, Mandy C, still recovering from her wrist surgery, and Suzy Larkin, who seems to be playing tennis in New Z, but not back on the ITF circuit.

Beyond them we have Olivia Nicholls (who has got 1 pt this year), Mirabelle (not played), Tiffany William (just returned from injury), Alice Gillan, Laura Deigman, Ella Taylor (1 point), Emma Hurst and Ola Pitak. A total of  just 31 ranked women now.

Given the changes to the ITF circuit next year, I expect we will soon be struggling to fill out Steven's Top 25 table.

The really inglorious thing would be not to be able to fill out the top 25 table THIS year.

Quite a number of these listed by Michael beyond our top 20 will certainly need to add points some time. Emily Arb no doubt will and Mandy if and when fit. We will probably scrape through to the year end, with bits and pieces points and hopefully a new name or two ( though we have noone sitting on 2 counters ) though not guaranteed to, but I can certainly see us having less than 30 ranked players for the first time I recall.

A number at that level, and others trying to get initial ranking points, have been arguably shafted by the lack of home opportunities. Scott Lloyd said in the recent meeting / dinner attended by Topemp that tournaments are not as good a way of getting value for our pros as funding trips abroad ( though he did feel that the number of home tournaments had shrunk too low ). Now I kind of doubt what funding most of these would get for trips abroad but in general they would no doubt love many more tournaments.
