Takes it 6-1

Jo taking the ball earlier and earlier, hurrying Ajla up, forcing her to play short swings, loopy shots, more time for Jo to tee up winners.
Simple plan when the timing works.

But when the timing starts to go, you let your opponent back in to the match pretty quickly, 4-6 6-1 *5-4
Was totally in charge.

Phew! Just gets over the line.
About 30% awful, 10% bad, 30% average, 10% Good, 20% great.
4-6 6-1 6-4

Gosh, that was a struggle (to watch too). But a win and plenty of competitive court time. Blowing off the cobwebs is an understatement.

Loved the on-court coaching from Joyce. Tactical and positive. As a process and mental player, this is ideal for her.

Sadly Svitolina has been pretty awesome so far this week, in her routing of first Suarez Navarro and then Konjuh.

It was a fabulous match up until then. Real shame.
