Week 42 - ITF ($15K) - Colombo, Sri Lanka, Clay

An easier qualifying draw for Alice this week. Just one match to win. And thus far, despite Indy's protestations that the rainy season was due to end in Colombo, end of Sept, there doesn't seem to have been much easing off. They are trying to play L16 matches today on hard courts with third set MTBs no

QR1: Alice GILLAN (GBR) UNR 19 yrs (likely Mon rank:1056) vs BYE

QR2: Alice GILLAN (GBR) UNR vs Sheetal SHETTY (IND) UNR/ Gabriela Aura ZARNOVEANU (ROU) UNR aged 41yrs

They've finally managed to get some games play, and decide an opponent for Alice.

FQR: Alice GILLAN (GBR) UNR v. Gabriela Aura ZARNOVEANU (ROU) UNR
41 years old, as mentioned. She started in 2012, and this is her 70th event since then, playing regularly - mostly in every single event held in Romania - she has never qualified through an ITF, or won a match in an ITF main draw (she was placed into one directly on one occasion). Interesting... but hopefully swiftly dispatched by Ms. Gillan.

Alice was *5-4 up, but then lost the next three games
Started well in the second, but will it last this time?
5-7 *1-0

Another epic heading towards 3 hours, Gillan leads 5-2* but each game has been a battle.

And another epic one she wins smile

Well done, Alice - another point to add (and to protect those ones coming off).

Great fight.

Well one thing Alice appears to have is stamina.... those are hot, humid conditions she is playing in too!

So she needs one more counting event to retain her ranking beyond the end of November...
