Can't say I'm entirely surprised by that result, given that Big Sam was one of the players on the other side of the net, but disappointed for Joe.  hmm

Aussie Christopher O'Connell, who beat both Liam and Jay in qualifying, is now into the SF having beaten (3) Bjorn Fratangelo in the QF.

Best of luck to Messrs Bambridge and O'Hare.

And best to all the people who live in the region - and to the firefighters working there. It's not been easy for the players, but it's far worse for the people who live there: 6,000 or so buildings destroyed and 36 dead in the California fires over all. Second serve points seeem to have been the big problem for Neal & J-P.

Won a total of 5/25 (20%) including 8 DFs as against 17/30 (57%) won by their opponents. First set it was 1/11 (9%) including 4 DFs.

All in all Brits being at least part of 3 of the 4 seeded pairs and getting just one pair into the SF probably isn't really helping Fairfield memories.

Ah but the WCs in Tokyo were both local boys brought up on Sumo where as on this occasion we have a much more culturally diverse pairing
