Girls: National Sport Park Open U18, Albania, hard - Grade 5 (Week 38)

I'd normally put this G5 in an 'other events' thread but little Matilda Mut. (born 2004) has just pulled off a super-duper win and warrants a thread practically all to herself

R1 (L32)

Matilda MUTAVDZIC (GBR)     4-6 7-6(5) 6-4     Galateia MESOCHORITOU (GRE) [2]

Aleksandra TOPALOVIC (GBR) [3]     6-2 3-6 7-6(3)     Stefanie AUER (AUT)

Matilda has only just turned 13, plays a very nice game (she was on livestream for some of the Tennis Europe events), and has just beaten the JWR 567, three years older.

Well done, youngster !

Little Matilda clocked up another excellent win:

Diletta CHERUBINI (ITA) 7-5 7-5 Aleksandra TOPALOVIC (GBR) [3]

Watch this name!

As said, she was on the Auray livestream and impressive there. And she's into the final in her first ITF.

Go, Mattie! Or Tillie ! Or Tilda ! Or, even just Matilda !

QF: Matilda MUTAVDZIC (GBR) 6-2 6-2 Andrea ZECEVIC (CRO)

SF: Matilda MUTAVDZIC (GBR) 7-5 6-3 Antonella LA CAVA (ITA) [5]

PS Interestingly, I was talking to someone at the French federation who said 'heard that you've got some very promising girls over in England at the moment'. When I asked him who, he wasn;t too sure (he'd heard it from someone else in the junior commission) but he said the FFT had noted it, and it was being talked about as quite newsworthy.
It can't be the Emily App/Fran/Jodie/Ali lot, because the Junior Commission doesn't really care about girls that age, they're barely juniors any more in their eyes.
So it might be the Emma/Holly/even Gemma lot.
But it's just as likely to be the Matilda/Andrea etc.
Anyway, whoever, well done the GB girls - keep making waves !
And best of luck to Matilda M in her final !!!!

Just one more win to match Emma's success in her first ITF (albeit Emma R broke the ITF record for youngest winner at 13yrs and a few days, while Matilda is a comparatively ancient 13 years 3 months)

Final

(8) Natalia Szabanin (HUN) v Matilda Mutavdzic (GBR)

Forgot to say.

Speaking of Holly and Emma. Haven't seen them in a draw for a while or on any acceptance list. Any news?

I wonder if Matilda will play on the Wirral in Nov? Your roving NW reporter may be there

Not the way she'd have wanted it but a title nevertheless  winner.gif - an excellent week.

As Bob said for Jonny and Scott: take it !

Well done, Matilda - a title first time out is a great result.

It is the second week in a row that Matilda has won a tournament here - she also won the Tennis Europe under 16 event last week with photo of the finalists tweeted at pbs.twimg.com/media/DJxjeH6WkAId1o4.jpg

Yes - you can see her in action at Auray last year (which CD mentions earlier in the thread) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d65OIsVGkrU
