Boys & Girls: 2017 US Open Juniors - Grade A (Week 36)

And Aidan made it four games on the trot.

But, unfortunately, at 5-4 up, the American 11th seed managed to serve it out. So Aidan lost 6-4 3-6 6-4

His opponent in round 2 will be decided in a match on court now (Nijboer a set up)

R2

(Q) George Loffhagen v Ryan Nijboer (NED) or Ondrej Styler (CZE)

His R2 opponent is decided - someone who has struggled to make any impact in G1 and GA events after one or two good results in G2s

R2

(Q) George Loffhagen v Ryan Nijboer (NED)

Continue to be so impressed with George - not only in the play but in the results and the progress of the results:

At Roehampton, he lost in a third set TB to Shimizu: two months later he takes him out in three sets.

At Junior Wimbly, he lost 8-6 in the third set to Kypson: two months later he beats the American in two easy sets.

He's on a real strong upward curve which fits in with what was on display two months ago: someone with a LOT of natural talent and exciting aspects to his game but with a lot that could still be improved on, which - seemingly - is exactly what he's doing.

That's a very impressive performance. Aidan McHugh didn't do badly either. Will be interesting to see how the doubles go.

Nice fight shown. Unfortunate final result.

Well done to George

Kypson did a bit better against Menendez-Maceiras in the men's main draw, lost 6-4 7-6(9) 6 -1. Since Menendez-Maceiras was competitive with Del Potro, at least in the third set, lost 6-2 6-3 7-6(3), it is clear that George would give Del Potro a decent game, quite apart from rolling past WR 13 Bautista Agut who Del Potro beat 6-3 6-3 6-4

Ben might be surprised but not us....

Bit of a surprise: Kalamazoo champ Patrick Kypson crashes quickly out of #USOpen boys' singles R1, 6-1, 6-3 to qualifier George Loffhagen.

Very impressive performance by George not just today but consistently since his 1st round 3 set loss at Roehampton there hasn't been a backward step.

I am not wishing the year away but the British boys junior ranking will look pretty healthy in January when the 1999ers drop off! Potentially 3 players knocking on the door of the top 20.
