From one point of view, perhaps one of the most surprising results from a GB woman all year.
Manisha's fifteenth match in qualifying yields her first qualifying loss.

Manisha is really struggling to make headway again after her recovery from the long injury she had last year. She is having to play all these qualifying matches yet hardly gaining any reward, a few 1 maybe 2 pointers at the end of winning 4 or 5 matches that's all. I know nothing about her opponent here, other than that she is young (18 yrs) and without a junior record, but obviously has some ability. But for Manisha herself, she badly needs to win the few more points that will start to get her into main 15k draws more regularly, otherwise she is in a rut she will find it difficult to escape. It's a pity since she won her first 15k tournament last year almost immediately before getting injured, so never gained from the lift that may have given her.

At least the doubles form is holding up
Very good win though, against the top seeds.
R16: Arbuthnott/Daniel (GBR/JPN) defeated Ewijk/Lister (NED/SWE) [1] 6-2 2-6 [10-5]

Doubles carries more weight in college team tennis than it does on the professional tour. Emily has had a very strong Freshman year straight in as half of the Stanford no 1 doubles team so probably gets a disproportionate amount of practice compared to futures players generic.

Emily is certainly in a run of good doubles form. 12/12 in County Week, title in Porto last week.
