Week 31 - ITF ($60K) - Lexington KY, USA - Hard

QR1: (q2) Emily Webley-Smith WR 512 v Alona Bondarenko (UKR) WR 1171 (CH 19 in 2008)

Laura should be one of the top seeds in the main draw, with GB's two top Kats playing too.

On the ITF scoreboard, Emily is now listed as playing Alona Bondarenko, a former Top 20 player on the comeback trail (albeit with mixed results). If that's the case, that's a tougher proposition than Boyd...

Thanks, Grachka - corrected in the first post. I use Resultina on my phone to check I am picking up on all Q draws if I'm away from my computer and it's not the first time it has parsed a draw incorrectly (though it's still impressive what the developers have managed to do with it, I should just never trust it without checking elsewhere, especially when it looks wrong - I should have realised the draw couldn't be quite as weak as all that!)

Bovina then Bondarenko in two weeks. Ouch.

A long game at 5-2*, four deuces but only one set point (courtesy of a double fault) which is missed.

*5-3

Nevertheless that shifts some momentum and Em is broken to 15

15-40
30-40

Em takes the set 6-4

That set lasted longer than the first match on this court, and nearly as long as the second!

Recovers from a break down in the second twice, but then gets broken from 30-0 at *4-4 and that's that.

64 46 *00

Suspect this will slip away but it's been a hugely hard fought contest.

Ah I LOVE being wrong!

Em grinds it out 62 in the third. Impressed, but she's been drawn a raw deal with a tough one next too.
