Week 31 - ITF ($15K) - Porto, Portugal Clay

Emily ended up winning 6 games in a row from *2-4 down in the 1st (the first 5 games of the 1st set were all breaks before Honcova got the first hold in game 6) to go a set and a break up only to then lose the next 7 games in a row - she is now an early break down in the 3rd - 6-4 2-6 0-1*

Honcova went 40-0 up in the next game but Emily pulled it back to deuce and had a break point but the top seed ended up holding then broke to 15 and is now 40-0 up on serve ... Emily pulls it back to deuce again (there doesn't seem to be any lack of fight, despite the loss of so many games in a row) but the Slovakian holds again to win her 10th game in a row 6-4 2-6 *0-4

We're in Deniece Williams/Laura Nyro territory - It's Gonna Take A Miracle.
But, Emily came back in previous round, so...

I wonder if Emily has injured her serving shoulder and that might explain the massive turnaround - she seems to be competitive on Honcova's serve but her own service games are not competitive at all. Broken again, last chance - 6-4 2-6 0-5*

Honcova's turn to win 3 points in a row to bring it back to deuce but it's now advantage Emily, but her 4th bp in this game is also saved

Match point ... saved

5th break point of the game ... and Emily gets on the board in the 3rd - that's the 15th break in 24 games (62.5%)

Slow but steady progress throughout the summer so far in general.
But, not the impact I thought, or perhaps just erroneously hoped, she would make.

Oh dear, sorry Em, couldn't sit cheering you on all afternoon. Didn't expect you to lose 12 of the last 13 games though while I was out.
Still, pretty good week on the whole, just hope you aren't carrying an injury

If Emily is carrying an injury, it is not sufficient to prevent her aiming for an eigth doubles title, *4-4

It's an eighth doubles title for Emily, second with Emilie (along with Sunderland $10K, last year).
They've all come at Old $10K/New $15K level, but on an equal variety of Clay, Indoor Hard, & Outdoor Hard Courts.

F: Arbuthnott/Francati (GBR/DEN) 1242 (639 + 603) defeated Sanesi/Stefanini (ITA/ITA) 1137 (533 + 604) 6-4 6-3
