Week 25 Mens Wimbledon Qualifying Wildcard playoffs.

I don't think I agree with you CD that Ryan should get a QWC if he doesn't win. I like Ryan and 12 months ago I thought he was the one to watch! But I've been a little disappointed that he hasn't made the transition into to men's game in the same way that Jay has. His result have been similar to the other 98ers. Oakland could be right he may be a slow burner.

I actually said I think there's a 'good chance' that he'll get a QWC, not that he 'should'.

I agree he most certainly hasn't transitioned like Jay. No question.

But I don't think the federation should be obsessed about instant results. Not at 19. Their job is to identify and help talent and commitment.

NB I'm not saying that the others aren't deserving too, just that given the play-off set-up, and that there are four places left, that Ryan's claim is a good one. Frankly, I'd give one to the two losers if the alternative is simply to give a place to the next ALT.

And I still don't think slow burner applies at 19

But big well done to Neil. Pleased for him.

I'm sure this French included a QWC with a similar low ranking based on potential rather than ranking. I might be wrong but a 20yr old rings a bell. Or maybe it was the Aussies. Either way it can't do any harm. There's plenty of withdrawals at the moment anyway for various reasons so sneaking Ryan in as another Brit to replace Dan at QWC level might work.

Results just been posted on the LTA site. Neil did indeed beat Ryan in 2 TB sets 7-6(5) 7-6(2)

In the other final Dan Cox beat Alex Ward 6-7(6) 6-4 7-6(6)

Perhaps they'll give one to Alex Ward as well, seeing how close he came.

I doubt the scoreline will have any bearing on the allocation - usually if there are spare QWCs they hand them out to both players who lost in the qualifying final, if 2 are available, and the higher ranked one if only one. Hence if Ryan has one Alex will almost certainly get one as well.

Thanks David.  Hope you are right on that one.

Hope so. After all, if we're talking potential, he was at the level where he could be awarded a MD WC last year ... and has suffered primarily because of injuries. It would be both fair and fitting.

Played behind closed doors. Whose decision was that?

LTA/Wimbledon spreading the tennis message far and wide - "We'd rather not contend with the great unwashed".
