Boys & Girls: Allianz Kundler German Juniors, clay - Grade 1 (Week 25)

Qualifying has just concluded in Berlin with Ewen Lumsden negotiating it as top seed and Anna Loughlan prevailing as a Lucky loser, though drawing the 4th seed may not feel particularly lucky. George Loffhagen also has a formidable opponent ranked inside 1000 ATP

Hamish Stewart v (Q) Otto Virtanen (FIN)

(9) Carlos Lopez Montagud (ESP) v Dominic West

(Q) Facundo Diaz Acosta (ARG) v (13) Aidan McHugh

(Q) Ewen Lumsden v Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida (BRA)

George Loffhagen v (2) Rudolf Molleker (GER)

Girls R1 (L64)

(LL) Anna Loughlan v (4) Hurricane Tyra Black (USA)

Out of curiosity, I looked up their opponents, having heard of none of them save Simon Carr. Zima looks potentially winnable: 17 and no huge results. The Brazilian seed looks strong on clay. Benito Sanchez Martinez could be a more difficult opponent than his ranking suggests: he's only fifteen and has played very few tournaments ... but he was decently ranked in Tennis Europe U14s despite again playing very few tournaments.

Jack had quite a battle with the Brazilian clay courter but came out on top and next plays a Spaniard who won a G2 recently. Our Irish friend was too strong for Ewen though. There are live scores from some courts now at www.tennisticker.de/ger/sb.html

Hamish Stewart d. (WC) Benito Sanchez Martinez (GER) 6-3 6-3
(13) Aidan McHugh d. (WC) Leopold Zima (GER) 6-1 6-2
Jack Draper v (10) Joao Lucas Reis Da Silva (BRA) 7-6(8) 6-7(4) 6-1
(5) Simon Carr (IRL) d. (Q) Ewen Lumsden 6-1 6-2

R3

Stefan Palosi (ROU) v Hamish Stewart
Igor Gimenez (BRA) v (13) Aidan McHugh
(7) Carlos Sanchez Jover (ESP) v Jack Draper

Rain delayed play today, but one splendid result so far leading to a maiden G1 quarter-final for Jack

Igor Gimenez (BRA) v (13) Aidan McHugh
Jack Draper d. (7) Carlos Sanchez Jover (ESP) 7-6(1) 6-3

QF

Igor Gimenez (BRA) or (13) Aidan McHugh v Giulio Zeppieri (ITA)

David, on the draw it shows Hamish as going through. But on the OoP it has Hamish as losing. Is there any way of knowing for certain which way round it was?

Very good win indeed for Jack. Sanchez Jover recently won the Hungary G2 in May.

When I started writing the above it showed Hamish as winning on the drawsheet and the oop, but just as I was about to publish the ITF changed both (and I forgot to delete the QF reference - now rectified), so it would appear that they got the winner wrong and you looked at the drawsheet just before it was corrected (the host German website also has Stefan as the winner)
