Week 25 - WTA International ($227K) - Birmingham, GB Grass

I believe this is a Premier 12 ($820K), not an International.

Anything more than one win looks like a good result from that lot.

I think that's a tad pessimistic. Obviously one win is guaranteed, and Dunne, Robson and Moore (if fit) all look to have a fighting chance.

Isn't Laura going to have a problem as she is still playing in Nottingham?

Good choice from the Brits. No-one seemingly wants to play Birmingham qualifiers. There are good money and points available and Ilkley is ridiculously loaded.

I read a discussion about this yesterday, but can't find it again right now. It appears that Laura can't play Birmingham qualies if she is still in Nottingham doubles - i.e. wins her dubs SF today starting at 1pm. If she loses, she'll have a mad dash to brum to make her later QR1 (fourth match - not before 3pm)

Harsh though it may be on her partner isn't lauras first commitment to singles? Shouldn't she withdraw from Nottingham doubles and play Birmingham? That would be my call

Laura possibly playing 2 tournaments in one day made me wonder- are Nottingham and Birmingham the closest 2 tournaments in the main tour worldwide on consecutive weeks? Queens and Wimbledon are closer but no longer consecutive.

As she's partnering a doubles specialist that's not going to happen. Her doubles starts at one and so the chances of her being in Birmingham for three are non existent.

Agree with that. Presumably not possible to get a Wc for ilkley?

You cannot play two singles events in the same week, except in second week of GS.

Laura is 4th on after 11am. If she doesn't withdraw at Nottingham, she should arrive by 3.30 and should make the match. I'm sure the JTC girls will slow things up, to ensure she is there on time.

If she wins the doubles semi in Nottingham is she still OK to play Birmingham qualies and won't she face the same issue tomorrow if she can?

Also, why couldn't Nottingham have put her doubles on at 11 am like the centre Court schedule instead of 1? Both Lta and wta events, don't the tournaments talk to talk each other? Supposed to be professional sports!

Mind boggling scheduling for any number of reasons. 2nd day in a row Jo's match has clashed with the doubles. So annnoying !!!!!!! No chance of her withdrawing, as she's loving every minute of this week with Joss. I'd have liked to have seen her take a MDWC for Ilkley, but it's quite conceivable she might just play the dubs with Joss in Brum.
