RE: WTA Ruin their website... again!

Just the occasional update: It's still useless. At least half from the very first list of concerns in this thread remains unaddressed.
Obviously, resources have been instead been diverted to far more important things, like this latest crucial exposé on the state of women's tennis

disbelief disbelief disbelief

I Really must congratulte STEVEN and Indiana for their surmise of the uselessness of the  WTA website. It's amazing what you can do with money wink

On an unrelated note, this trend for WTA players to change their name by joining it all together to make a single word so that they can pretend they're like Beyonce or Madonna has got to stop.
Real capture from the current WTA Rankings page

I see you SimonaHalep & CarolineWozniacki - stop it!

And whilst we're at it: When did the Danish population explosion happen?

(It's a real capture from the current WTA Rankings page - which still only goes back as far as April 2017)

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/lionesses-led-by-donkeys-womens-tour-in-utter-turmoil-7fnm5lgv7

I am not sure whether anyone can open this but this was an article in todays Times by Stuart Fraser about the ineptitude of the WTA with its lack of leadership and no longer having an App for scores, inability to get tournaments on and find sponsors outside of China more generally. An interesting read and highlights much of what has been discussed on here before.

I am not sure whether this link will work and I couldnt find a way to cut and paste it, so if anyone out there knows how to do that, that would be great.

Thanks

Thanks TA - when I tried to open it as a link, it would only take me to a login page.

The article might be behind the paywall - which would explain why I can access it !

Lionesses led by donkeys womens tour in utter turmoil

"Exciting talents are poorly served by a governing body that cannot even provide an adequate app for fans to keep track of scores, says Stuart Fraser"

"At a time when lives are being lost and economies continue to be ravaged, recent complaints about the sudden discontinuation of the WTA mobile-phone app, which provides live scores, will understandably seem trivial.

Yet, as the WTA Tour heads into its first event the Abu Dhabi Open, from Tuesday of a new season shrouded by uncertainty, such criticisms by the likes of Caroline Wozniacki and countless tennis fans provide yet another indication of the concerning position in which the womens governing body finds itself. With perilous finances and questionable leadership, the future outlook does not look good.

This is not to say that things are looking overly rosy for the ATP, the governing body of the mens professional circuit. The pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges for all sporting organisations, and no one can say with certainty, even with vaccines approved, how the next few months will play out. But a trend of dubious decision-making last year by the WTA has raised eyebrows as to the disservice it is doing to exciting talents such as the trailblazer Naomi Osaka, 23, and Iga Swiatek, the fearless 19-year-old from Poland.

The failure to provide an adequate modern-day replacement for a scoring app beggars belief. Users of the combined ATP and WTA service were greeted by the instruction last week to download a new ATP standalone app to follow mens matches and go to the WTA website often unusable and obsolete to track womens scores.

It is all very well launching a marketing campaign entitled WTA for the game last month, but if followers find it difficult to simply keep up to date with the results of matches in the smartphone era then they will soon be lost to more accessible forms of entertainment."

There is more.

And they had the chance to get the event in Cologne to be men and womens and missed the boat as well, alongside not getting any events of more post Roland G.

Caroline Wozniacki had previously mentioned the same thing, now Heather is asking the question of where can live scores be found: twitter.com/stu_fraser/status/1346392494641192964

They also seem to have got their act together with downloadable draws showing prize money, points etc.
Not as helpful as using the old APP but at least a small step forward!
