Interesting to see how young Nell gets on.

I've got a feeling the step up to seniors is a bit early yet.

Wow...
Nell won 4&2

Don't forget Nell is still 14 and there are quite a few stronger 2000 girls than Nell....

Excellent :)

Is this part of the LTA's push to get youngsters to play more adult matches, do people think ?

Partly and the changes to the domestic ranking system.

The Optimist provided a better summary in one of the entry threads.

Well that was a nice surprise to find that Nell had qualified. If she draws a player 900 or higher, she must stand a chance of picking up a point.

Just a little background information on Nell.

She is still 14, but turns 15 soon. She is based in Kent and she won the road to Wimbledon tournament event last year.

According to the latest LTA rankings, she is ranked no.3 in the country for u-16's this year although I'm not sure how much to read into this yet.

I saw her play a couple of matches at Liverpool. She is a tall girl with a solid back court game, but lacks a bit of variety at the moment. She lost in the QF in that tournament to Donia who is a similar age(who is playing Sunderland qualifiers). Her main strength is her consistency and she doesn't tend to make too many errors. Seems a very pleasant girl and one think of note that I haven't seen for a while was when they lost and they were about to leave, Nell and her mum came up to Gill and Anders(ITF supervisor and organiser) and thanked them both for organising the event.

Nell has drawn a 15yr old Russian wildcard.....

tough draw for Jazzamay getting the top seed. Dasha and Eden will be reasonably pleased with their draws.

Er, not sure Eden will be delighted with her draw ... (Brits stacked in the top quarter again too, the first three matches below are the first three matches in the draw):

L32: Jazzamay Drew WR 937 v (1) Despina Papamichail (GRE) WR 338 (CH 317 last Jul)
L32: Eden Silva WR 691 v (WC) Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) UNR (CH 36 in 2011!) *
L32: Danielle Konotoptseva WR 831 v (Q) Mami Hasegawa (JPN) UNR
L32: (Q) Nell Miller UNR v (WC) Valeriya Denisenko (RUS) UNR (15yo junior WR 1861)

* 1st ITF/WTA match since Miami WTA qualifying in 2013 - Sevastova's last match against a Brit was a 3 set win against Hev in Feb 2013 just after losing to JoKo at AO Q

My half-Latvian informant tells me re Sevastova that despite not playing on the Pro Circuit last year, "she played Bundesliga Tennis last year. Beat Camerin, Witthoeft. The Latvian is tough."

Yes, poor Eden - an ex-top 40 player (from only a couple of years ago) is a real nasty wildcard.

However, she got the rub of the green last week, with the top seed withdrawal, so that's the way it goes. . . .

That's what I get for not looking into the detail - just saw WC and assumed incorrectly....

Tut tut Paulisi, Sevastova should be a name burned into your memory from her insane AO match with JoKo.

So much for Anastasija's retirement then!

I'm glad though.
Lovely player, lovely game; quality.
Hope she does well if she can make a full return. She had a thoroughly rotten time of things before her 'retirement'.

Maybe we'll also get to see Agnes Szavay return if both Vaidisova and Sevastova have, however tentatively; or Rebecca Marino & Ashleigh Barty.

I can only hope...

Edit: add link
