Boys & Girls: XXVIII Yucatan Cup, Mexico, clay - Grade 1 (Week 48)

A change of personnel, in the girls at least, compared to last week's GA here. Anastasia Mikheeva's opponent won a G2 event in September.  Live streaming is available at http://copayucatan.com.mx/partidos-en-vivo/ for the stadium court and live scores are promised. Nastya and Jodie should have played already on outside courts

Boys R1 (L64)

(Q) August Holmgren (DEN) v Joel Cannell

Girls R1 (L64)

(11) Adeliya Zabirova (RUS) v Anastasia Mikheeva

(WC) Alejanndra Escalante Barcelo (MEX) v Jodie Anna Burrage

Tough second match for Jodie against a top 50 ranked player who has accounted for Anna Brogan, Maia and Gabi this year.

Boys R2

Mwendwa Mbithi (USA) v Joel Cannell

Girls R2

Jodie Anna Burrage v (4) Usue Maitane Arconada (USA)

David's comments prove too true, unfortunately for Jodie:

Boys R2

Joel Cannell def. Mwendwa Mbithi (USA) 6-1 7-6(5)

Girls R2

Jodie Anna Burrage lost to (4) Usue Maitane Arconada (USA) 6-2 7-5

All three lost in the doubles too

Boys R3

Joel Cannell v Oscar Janglin (SWE)

Pity, but decent looking efforts by Anastasia and Jodie.

I get the impression that they are at least so far developing resultswise on a par with Gabbi and Maia a year ahead. Although, of course, Katie Swan currently stands out in the 1999s.

Well done to Joel.

Interesting to note that Joel is at the Justine Henin Academy. Has anyone seen him play?

Now gets tricky:

QF: Joel Cannelll v (1) Andrev Rublev (RUS)

NB No, LordB, never seen him play. Would like to. I think he was based in Spain, too, before the Henin academy.

Tricky would be an understatement. But reaching the QFs of a Grade 1 is no small thing in itself.

An important win which should see Joel into the top 100 at the start of 2015. If you want to see Joel he should be on the live stream tonight, provided you are around at 1am GMT (could be later if preceding matches overrun)
