James has played over 100 Futures in the last 8 years in his quest for an ATP singles ranking (he has come through qualifying a few times but never won a main draw singles match) and I thought this might be his lucky day, but sadly:

L32: James Allemby UNR lost to (Q) Fabio Mercuri (ITA) UNR by 4 & 3

I was intrigued to see tweets from the OPT circuit, which upon investigation, says that it organises tournaments in the Middle East and North Africa, but seems to be exclusively concerned with Iran. It seems to organise at least twelve tournaments - and has a system whereby the three players with the most points in 12 tournaments get quite (for futures) substantial bonuses - $5,000, $3,000 and $1,500 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Does anyone know of any other futures circuits that have that kind of arrangement? Or is this the kind of thing that you only have to do if you are trying to convince people to come to Iran? While fascinating, it clearly has its challenges; inter alia, interestingly - and presumably because of the sanctions - the tour site explains that there are no bank machines nor can you use a credit card, but have to have enough cash with you for all your expenses. I wonder what happens if you have an emergency...
