I'd like to give a shout out for Ash Barty who has started her 'second' career in earnest this year at the age of 21. She played a few tournaments last year but got abit injured, and restarted properly pre AO, then AO. She is now working her way through Rome qualies having beaten Zheng (68) yesterday. She's already got a LR of 84.

She says she was just too immature the first time round, and sadly I think I follow her hoping that it was Robbo doing so well.

With Fed missing Rome, Nadal is guaranteed to be ranked top 4 after Rome and so a top 4 seed for Roland Garros. He might overtake Wawrinka for WR 3, but seeded 3 or 4 is not greatly here not there.

On another note, well done to Frances Tiafoe for winning the Aix Challenger. And to another 19 year old Soon Woo Kwon for being a finalist in Seoul. The latter not really someone I've noticed before, but he seems to have been coming steadily up the rankings. Meanwhile Oscar Otte, recently beating Brits in futures, continues his storming rise up the ranks with a doubles win in the Rome Challenger.

Lot of interesting results there: also a new career high for Alexander Zverev and back to back very strong performances from Dominic Thiem (and he even won this one!). Thiem looking more and more likely to be the first of the younger players to win something big, with Zverev not far behind.

Meanwhile in South Korea, Soon Woo Kwon is in his second straight large Challenger SF. Vasek Pospisil and Dudi Sela are bidding to re-enter the top 100 (Sela at 32). And Casper Ruud (in Heilbronn) is serving notice that he would like to get there sooner rather than later. Lots of interesting stories!

Svitolina is top of the WTA Race to wherever it is they race, regardless of today's final. halep looks Rg favourite though

Clearly (see above) I will win no prizes for prognostication. But congratulations to Alexander Zverev, who becomes the first player born in the 1990s to win a major (Masters/GS) title, and the youngest in the top 10 for some time. Definitely a remarkable performance.

Well done to Petra Martic, reaching the last 16 of the French Open from 290 WR. Surely deserves a WC for Wimbledon as well on the back of that?

Harrison, Venus, Young and Gonzalez in the mens doubles final at RG. a) when was the last time two Americans played in a RG mens doubles final and didnt have the name Bryan ? b) when was the last time two unseeded pairs/players made up the final two in any GS event, I am sure it has happened, but I cant remember when?!
