Cameron Norrie

The possibility has been mentioned in passing on another thread, but now confirmed by the player himself:

@Norriie: "first day of being British :) @GBtennis"

To recap, Cameron is 17 and world junior no. 10, making him the new GB no. 1 in the ITF 18U rankings, usurping Luke Bambridge, whomr he beat in the Final of the G1 event in Manila in March (a month in which he got all of his best 3 points hauls!) to reach the junior top 10. He will also have an ATP ranking for the first time on Monday after qualifying and reaching the QFs in Bournemouth last week. He went out to Coric in Edinburgh qualies this week but did manage to take a set off him.

Cameron is a left-hander, born in South Africa (in Johannesburg in fact, just like Kyle Edmund) but moved to New Zealand (the country he has just switched from) when he was young.

The reason he has managed to switch much faster than JoKo is that his father is Scottish. In addition, his mother, while South African (according to Luke), was born in Wales.

It's been very good of Cameron and Luke to keep me (and hence us) informed about this - I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere else, though it'll be interesting to see whether it now gets any mentions in the press in the next few weeks.

Before Bournemouth, he had only played one senior event - Auckland ATP qualies, where he beat Carlos Berlocq (by a walkover, so sadly doesn't count as a top 100 scalp LOL) then lost 3 & 0 to Matwe Middelkoop.

Awesome! Always nice to have new talent on board, especially a top 10 junior. Perhaps the ''Fab Five'' will have to become the Super Six

Norrie's Knoll? Jesting aside, hope he enjoys his new allegiance.

Good luck to him. Perhaps he will get his own bad pun on the Hill. I call first dibs on Cameron's Crest.

We can forgive Cameron now for beating Luke in the Philippines G1 final last month - perhaps Luke allowed him the win to pave the way wink  They are both down for the Italian Grade A later this month.  The Kiwis must be frustrated at losing another of their few star players, after Sacha Jones became Australian 18 months ago.

The kiwis have now noticed that he has gone. They're being quite philosophical about it ...

Sounds like there might have been some negotiations in Manila and it may have all happened quite quickly, but that's just an impression.

Jonny O'Mara is already 'enjoying' Cameron's New Zyelunt iksunt ... and says that "If you watch Norrie play Steven, he says he will perform the #haka at the coin toss.im sure you will want to witness it!"

I thunk I'll guv ut a muss! wink (thought I wouldn't mind seeing either of both of them play, obviously)

Cameron 'celebrates' his change of nationality by joining the ATP rankings for the first time (as GB's youngest player with a current ATP singles ranking) along with Jonny, who is the 4th youngest.

So if Norrie is now playing for Britain due to his mother being Scottish does that mean that the number of Scots with a singles ranking has just doubled?

It's his father who is Scottish, but yes, I think you're probably right!

To the best of my knowledge they were the only two before today. O'Mara and arguably Norrie can be added to the list.

That could be some kind of record, with most Scots with single points at the same time ?

Dont think so! At one time there were Andy and Jamie Murray Colin Fleming Jamie Baker Alan Mackin and David Brewer(whatever happened to the World Junior no 3 I think!) all ranked at senior level at same time
