RE: Davis Cup 2013 - World Group Playoff - Croatia v GB - 13-15 September

Great reporting already, Bob

Always a bit dangerous trying to use a few words when that's all you know (in the sense that if they answer in Croatian, you'll be lost) but the words you mention are:

Yes is "da" (pronounced duh - yes, seriously ) & no is "ne" (e like the second e in event)

Please is "molim" (moh-leem) & thank you is hvala (hvuh-luh), where the bold marks the stress

... and useful when you bump into someone by mistake LOL - the very simple "pardon" (but the stress is on the 2nd syllable)

That's all well and good Steven, but what I REALLY need to know is what is the Croatian for "Let's go GB, let's go".  biggrin

Oh and Steven - if you are looking up translations for me, please add "Turn down the b***dy karaoke machine" to the list while you are at it. Thanks.

Fed up with "Raindrops are falling on me 'ead" and "Why, why why, Delilah" !!

After 1992 km, I need an early night.

Bob in Croatia - do you have a Where's Waldo book ? You should get an agent and a contract . . . Bob with a little tennis raquet hiding all round the world . . . I'd buy it . . .

By the way, you want the GB lads to understand 'let's go GB let's go' so I'd maybe stick to English ! And shout LOUD.

For the Croats, what about 'gubitnici' with a special L sign on the forehead ? Which my google translate tells me means 'losers!'.

As you'll have guessed, that one's beyond me! But yes, you need your sleep in order to be ready for the "Davis Cup party" ... every night from tomorrow onwards at 10 pm in Jimmy Woo's nightclub in/near the stadium complex (don't tell Dan wink)

Don't worry about that one. I think I can get my message across in some good ol' fashioned Anglo Saxon wink

And Jimmy Woo's already have a drinks stall/kiosk set up outside the stadium.  Not sure where the night club is.  Not sure I want to know either.

Bob in Spain.

Just a heads up. I had to give names of AMFF'ers to the LTA so they could be sat together. At the time you hadn't decided to go so you're still round and about in the 'away team area' BUT there's been an AMFF'er drop out though illness so a seat with the usual mob can be found if you want to join them.

Steven.

Sorry for the weird tweets; I thought you'd pointed me to a Fed Cup page in Croatian 'cos it listed female tennis player rankings.  My bad ... I now understand the Jimmy Woo bit and am thankful I'm not going!

smile

LTA - are you reading this ?

Enjoy, Bob - and keep us up to date when you get a moment . . .

VIP tickets were only 40 euros for a 3 day pass.

Thanks.  I will definitely check that out.  I am sure I will have no trouble spotting them !!

Sort of hoping the Melia party heads for the Jimmy Woo nightclub this evening.  One thing that became apparent last night was that my room is directly above the bar area.  Music was still going on a 4am !!

Fortunately, I was sooo zonked after the long drive that I slept through most of it.

"Murray, 26, has also been named as Colin Fleming's partner for Saturday's doubles, although Jonny Marray could be drafted into replace either player.

The Wimbledon champion missed the last Davis Cup tie in April ...."

From the BBC website. It is lovely to read a sentence where the phrase "The Wimbledon champion" could refer to one of two grammatical antecedents, both British tennis players ... and would actually be correct in both cases.
